MARCH 7TH. 1960
The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday March, 7th.,
at 10:00 A. M. with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney,
the Auditor and the Clerk to Board.
The Following Reports Were Approved and Filed:

Commissioner Curran moved seconded by Commissioner Byrd that allocation of
$500.00 be made to Harnett County Supervision of the Upper Cape Fear Soil
Conservation District to assist in District Program of assistance to farmers
in surveys, specifications. and survey checking connected *ith program of
District and ACP cost sharing jobs.
Motion carried.
Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Cameron that due to error
in tax listing for year 1952 of John I. Williams, that the county accept the
sum of $34.69, net taxes, due as payment in full of the 1952 taxes of John I.
Williams, Black River Township.
Motion carried.
Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Cameron, that the
attendance at a meeting in Wilmington, N. C. on a Diabetic discussion be paid in
an amount not to exceed $20.00. Voting for: Cameron, Curran and Byrd,
Voting against: Warren.
Motion carried.
Commissioner Curran and Commissioner Byrd were named by Chairman L. A.
Tart as a committee to ascertain the valuation and the appraisal of the
Cornelius Harnett Boarding Home and site.
Motion was made and duly passed that the resignation of E. C. Johnson. Jr.
Rural Policeman. be accepted to be effective as of March lat. 1960.
Commissioner Curran moved. seconded by Commissioner Byrd. that Lemuel
Gregory be and he is hereby appointed Rural Policeman to begin his.duties on
March 15th.

Be it resolved that the two (2) lots in the Town of Dunn f rmerly listed
to Edward Elliott and foreclosed for taxes under S. D. # 2646 and Judgment
# 1665 be conveyed to Edward Elliott for the sum of $280.48, which is the
amount due Harnett County for taxes and cost through year 1959. And the
Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to Edward Elliott, Dunn
N. C. and the Clerk to Board will attest same.
The Following Road Petition was Approved.and Mailed to the State
Highway:
(1) To pull and grade that road in Duke Township which runs from
Black Top No. 87 at Antioch Church to Residence of Howard Warren, into
another road, and is known as the Ethel D. Davis road a distance of 3/4 mile.

TO THE HARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION- GREETINGS:
The School Committee of School District Number 4 of Harnett County
respectfully petitions your honorable body for a special local tax election
pursuant to Article 14. Chapter 115 of theGeneral Statutes of North Carolina,
and in support thereof showeth the Board:

That the School Committee of School District Number 4 of Harnett County

has unanimously voted to request the Harnett County Board,of Education and the
Harnett County Board of Commissioners to call a special election to ascertain the wi
of the voters of the said District Number 4 as to whether there shall be levied and
collected a special tax in the said district, said tax not to exceed twenty -five
(25%) cents on the one hundred ($100,00) Dollars valuation of property. real and
personal, to supplement the current expense funds from .State and County allotments,
an3 thereby operate the schools of the said district on a higher standard by supple-
mently the school budget.

The area composing School District Number 4 is as shown and delineated on the
official district map of Harnett County as adopted by the Harnett County Board of
Education and approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education, which saidmap
is on file in the office of the Harnett County Board of Education.

The special tax, if approved by the voters of the said district, shall not
exceed twenty five (250 cents on the one hundred Dollars valuation of property,
real and personal.
WHEREFORE, the School Committee of School District Number 4 prays that this
petition be approved and endorsed and then forwarded to the Board of County
Commissioners.
