HomeMy WebLinkAbout09071959SEPTEMBER 7th. 1959 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, September, 7th. at 9 :30 A M with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. The Following Reports Elizabeth F. Matthews Kyle Harrington D P Ray Inez Harrington Wade H. Stewart Ray Themes Roy Godwin L. B.. McLean Were Presented and Approved: Clerk Superior Court Clerk Recorders Court Tax Collector Register of Deeds Sheriff Dog Warden Electrical Inspector Veterans Service Officer Commissioner Warren moved,' seconded by Commissioner Cameron, that the discarded used benches, formerly in the Court Room, be loaned to the Lillington Methodist Church for as long as needed, and then turned back to the Board of Commissioners for disposition. Also that anybbenches that are serviceable or can be made ser- viceable, and not used by the Methodist Church, that they'be turned over to the Lillington Baptist Mission. Motion carried. It was moved by Commissioner Byrd, and seconded by Commissioner Warren, that the County employ a person to push the dirt back of the Court House into the hole adjoining First Street in order to give more working space around the Court - House. Mr. Alec White, the Engineer In :charge, assumes all cost over and above the total sum of $250.00. This however does not include the cost of any pipe that may have to be used. Motion carried. . The following Road Petitions were approved and mailed to State Highway Comm- ission in Fayetteville. (1) That road in Anderson Creek Township, be drained and stabilized.and known as McNeill Cemetery Road a distance of 6/10 mile. (petition mailed to Roger N. Weaver, Lillington) (2) To gravel that road in Averasboro Township which runs from Black River to A.C.L. Railroad and known as Baersville Road a distance of 2/10 mile. (Petition mailed to State Highway Commission Fayetteville) (3) To hard top that road in Black River Township, which runs from a point on Highway 210 to Dallas Collins home, known as Coats Road, a distance of 1.3 mile. (Petition mailed to State Highway Commission, Fayetteville) (4) To sand clay that road in Johnsonville Township, which runs from Ma Perkins old Store to Old Highway # 87, a distance of 3/10 mile. (Petition mailed to State Highway Commission, Fayetteville) Dr. Hunter, Health Officer, was authorized to replace two nurses who are on leave of absence by two other nurses at additional cost of $60.00, per year. Commission Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Warrent,that Harnett County give a page advertisement to the State Mazazine at a cost of $200.00. Motion carried. Commissioner Warren moved, seconded by Commissioner Currin, that the jail fees be raised to $1.50 per day. Motion �ccarried 4 Wfift A3, • The Tax Supervisor for Harnett County has advised the Board of Cpunty Commissioness that the tax books containing the tax levy for the year 1959 are now ready for delivery to the tax collector to the end that said tax collector may commence the collectionof the taxes set forth and contained in said books; and WHEREAS, Thurman C. Ennis and Company, CPA, has audited the 1958 -59 records of the Harnett County Tax Collector and reports said records to be in proper order and all funds handled and received by said Tax Collector properly accounted for; 0 tn 0 t o ❑ c a. cd W y cd • I m O • 0 0 m P m PL-1 NOW THEREFORE, BE it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County as follows: 1. That the Tax Supervisor shall and he is hereby ordered and directed to forthwith deliver to the Tax Collector the tax books for Harnett County for the year 1959. 2. That the Tax Cpllector of Harnett County shall and he is hereby authorized, empowered, and commanded to immediately begin the collection of the taxes set forth in the tax books. August 17, 1959 NORTH CAROLINA HARNETT COUNTY TO: HONORABLE D. P. Ray, Jr. Harnett County Tax Collector: You are hereby authorized, empowered and commanded to collect the taxes set forth in the tax books filed in the office of the Harnett County Tax Supervisor and in the receipts herewith delivered to you, and in the amount and from the taxpayers therein set forth, (and also, all other taxpayers and taxes represented by official tax mceipts for years other than the current year) and such taxes are hereby declared to be a first lien on all real property of the respective taxpayers in Harnett County and this order shall be a full and sufficient authority to direct, require and enable you to levy on and sell any real or personal property of said taxpayers, for and on account thereof in accordance with law; Attest: Inez Harrington, Clerk to Board L. A. Tart, Chairman Harnett County Board of Comm. Upon motion of Commissioner Byrd and seconded by Commissioner Currin, it was unanimously agreed that the Board of Commissiones of Harnett Countyaccept the sum of $1,580.00, from the State Highway Commission for the right -of -way and Easement through the county farm, and did authorize Mr. Tart, the Chairman. to sign all papers necessary to effectuate said agreement.
