HomeMy WebLinkAbout11031958203 NOVEMBER 3rd. 1958 The Board of Commissiones met in regular session on Monday, November 3, 1958, with L. A. Tart, Chairman, Jarvis Pleasant, Alex Cameron, J. E. Womble and Joe Curran present. Also present were the County Attorney, the Clerk to Board and the Auditor The Following Reports were made and filed: D. P. Ray Kyle Harrington Elizabeth Matthews Inez Harrington L. B. McLean Earl Wells Roy Godwin Tax Collector Clerk Recorders Court Clerk Superior Court R'#gister of Deeds Service -- Veterans Officer Dog Warden County Electrical Inspector The Board ordered that Mrs. J. Hardy Byrd, Stewarts Creek Township, be refunded $3.00 due to error in listing a dog for taxation. Commissioner Pleasant moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that salary of Mrs. Bessie Pruett be increased to $290.00 per month, effective Nov. 1, 1958, by reason of her classification as PHN 111. Motion passed by unanimous vote. Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant and upon written request of Carl M. Parnell, Auditor and agent for Godwin Building Supply Co. Inc., the board ordered, that the inventory listed for Godwin Building Cupply Co. for the year 1958 be reduced from $222,127.96 to $147,634.90 by reason of an error in listing and that the tax listing record for said company for the year 1958 be corrected to show such reduction. Motion carried The board ordered the County Offices closed on 'Thursday November, 27th. for Thanksgiving Day. Mr. C. J. Turlington appeared before the Board on behalf of Roosevelt Hayes, Jr. and advised the Board that Hayes wanted to redeem the lot in Coats formerly owned by his father and acquired by Harnett County and the Town of Coats under Tax Foreclosure Judgment No. A -1671. Mr. Turlington advised the Board also that Coats had agreed to permit the redemption of the interest acquired by it and presented a written atatement from the Harnett County Tax Collector showing that the total due Harnett County for taxes, penalties, interest and court costs in connection with said property amounted to $140.43. Thereupon, on motion of Commissioner Cameron, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant, the Board voted unanimously to convey to Roosevelt Hayes, Jr.. its in- terest in the lands acquired in Tax Foreclosure Judgment No. A -1671 by deed recorded in Book 370, at age 242, Harnett County Registry, upon the payment to the County of the sum of $140.43, the same representing all taxes, penalties, interest and Court Cost due on said lands and in connection with said foreclosure, and upon the further condition that the said Roosevelt Hayes, Jr. list said ds for taxes for the year 1958 and pay the taxes thereon, and authorize the co to execute a deed, to be attested by the Clerk, conveying the County's interest in said lands to the said Roosevelt Hayes, Jr. upon compliance of the terms hereof by him.
