The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday December, 2nd.
1957, at 10:00 A. M. with all members present, except Commissioner Joe Currin,
The County Attorney, the Clerk to the Board and the Auditor were also present.

The following road petitions were approved:
(1) to black top that road. in Duke Township, which runs from Old Post Road
to the end of Nelson Village a distance of 962 feet.
(2) To grade, drain and pave that road in Averashoro Township, which runs
from Claude Young's residence to Cross roads connecting 301 with N. C. # 27,
a distance of 1-1/10 miles.
Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant that a
stove; refrigerator and cabinets be installed in the Agricultural building for
the use of the Negro Home Agent and that all wiring and plumbing work be done
under the direction of Commissioner Womble. Motion carried.
The Board ordred the County Offices closed for the Christmas Holidays on
December 24th. through December 29th. Also closed Wednesday January 1st. 1958,
New 7 Years Day.
The Board ordered that County employees be paid December salary on December
20th.
Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Cameron that Earl H.
Wells be appointed Dog Warden to serve at .pleasure of Board and that Ray Thomas
be appointed Assistant Dog Warden at the pleasure of the Board. r
Motion carried,

Upon motion of Commission Cameron, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant, the
following resolution was adopted by unanimour vote:
WHEREAS, it is necessary to put a new roof on the Cornelius Harnett Board-
ing Home because the present roof is leaking badly and if said condition is
not corrected immediately the interior of said building will be severely damaged;
and
WHEREAS, at the time the 1957 -58 Budget was established and adopted said
repairs were not anticipated or expected and no funds were appropriated to defray
the cost of making such repairs and the County has on hand in the General Fund
unencumbered and unappropriated, funds in excess of the amount that will be re-
quired to cover the costs of such repairs; and
WHEREAS, the sum of approximately $3000 will be required to cover the cost of
such repairs and it is the opinion bf the Board of Commissioners that said funds
shall now be appropriated;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT
COUNTY:
1. That the sum of $3000 be and the same is hereby appropriated from the
General Fund Surplus to be used for the purpose of defraying the cost of making
such repairs necessary to the Cornelius Harnett Boarding Home property.
2. That the Harnett County Auditor be and he is hereby authorized and directed
to transfer said sum from the General Fund Surplus to said appropriation and to
disburse the same for such repairs as directed by this Board.
3. That the 1957 -58 Budget resolution be and the same is hereby amended
and increased in the amount of $3000, said increase to be finances by surplus
funds on hand July 1, 1957, and not used in the original Budget Resolution or any
amendment thereto to meet expenses for the current fiscal ear.
