HomeMy WebLinkAbout03041957MARCH 4th. 1957 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, March 4th., 195(, at 10:00 A. M., with all members present except L. A. Tart, Chairman, who was absent on account of illness. Also present were the County Attorney the Clerk to the Board and the Auditor. The following monthly reports were approved and placed on file. D. P. Ray, Tax Collector - Elizabeth F. Matthews, Clerk Superior Court Kyle Harrington, Clerk recorders Court Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds L. B. McLean, Veterans Service Officer Earl Wells, Dog Warden B. H. Sellars, County electrical Inspector, The following road petitions were approved and filed: (1) To make an all- weather road of that road in Buckhorn 'Township which runs from Buckhorn- Christian Light Road in front of the home of Mrs. W. A. Johnson to old home place of J. F. Arnold a distance of 9,110 miles (Petition to be presented to Highway Commissioners of March 6, Court house) (2) To make an which runs from miles. (Petition to Courthouse) all- weather road of that road in Buckhorn Township, D. 0, Tudor to Alton Bakers Store a distance of 3 be presented to Highway Commission on March 6, (3) to pull up and gravel that road in Johnsonville Township which runs from road at 0. H. Mangum Store to George McKay Store a distance of 1 -1 /10 miles. (Petition to be presented to Highway Commissioners on March 6, at Co•:rthous e ) (4) To pull up and gravel that road in Upper Little River Township which runs from Rosser's bridge road to Percy Taylor's residence beginning at Ruben Princes residence known as Minter McLean road a distance of 1 mile. (petition to be presented to Highway Commissioners on Wednesday March 6, at Courthouse) Commission Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Currin, that Harnett County consider paying the rent on the office space now occupied by A S C office over Wilbourn Furniture Co at ti.e cost of $100.00 per month. Motion carried. Insurance Bonds Nos. 358 -5595 64 -56 -32 and 92 -3577 on Harnett County Buildings were approved and placed on file. Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that Sheriff be and he is hereby authorized to purchase new uniforms for Harnett Rural Policemen. Motion carried. Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Curran, the following resolution was adopted by unanimous vote: WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that all self - employed citizens of Harnett County, and particularly those engaged in farming, should file proper returns to reflect their self - employment income and pay the tax thereon to the end that such self - employed individuals may obtain coverage for SocialSecurtty benefits; and WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that if all citizens will comply with the rules and regulations of the Federal government relative to the filing of employment tax returns such will in due time greatly reduce applications to the Harnett County Welfare Board for old -age assistance and other benefits, and will at the same time enable such citizens to derive a monthly income in the farm of Social Security benefits, and the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County is of the opinion that many self - employed farmers in said County are not presently filing the required self- employment tax return; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE' BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY .THAT 411 self - employed individuals in said county be and they are hereby urged to file self - employment tax returns as required by law; And be it further resolved that interisted service clubs and organizations in Harnett County be and they are hereby requested to join with the Harnett County Board of Commissioners in urging the self - employed citizens of Harnett County to file such self - employment tax returns.
