Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Curran, the
following resolution was adopted by unanimous vote:
WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that
all self - employed citizens of Harnett County, and particularly those engaged in
farming, should file proper returns to reflect their self - employment income and
pay the tax thereon to the end that such self - employed individuals may obtain
coverage for SocialSecurtty benefits; and
WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that
if all citizens will comply with the rules and regulations of the Federal
government relative to the filing of employment tax returns such will in due
time greatly reduce applications to the Harnett County Welfare Board for old -age
assistance and other benefits, and will at the same time enable such citizens
to derive a monthly income in the farm of Social Security benefits, and the
Board of Commissioners of Harnett County is of the opinion that many self -
employed farmers in said County are not presently filing the required self-
employment tax return;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE' BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT
COUNTY .THAT 411 self - employed individuals in said county be and they are hereby
urged to file self - employment tax returns as required by law;
And be it further resolved that interisted service clubs and organizations
in Harnett County be and they are hereby requested to join with the Harnett
County Board of Commissioners in urging the self - employed citizens of Harnett
County to file such self - employment tax returns.
THE BOARD ADJOURNED.
