HomeMy WebLinkAbout10031966522 OCTOBER 3rd. 1966 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday October 3rd. at 10:00 A.M. with all members present except Commissioner Mixon. Also presebt were theCounty Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. Chairman Brock called the meeting to order and offered the invocation. Chairman Brock welcomed the incoming County Commissioners, Mr. Clarence McLamb, Averasboro Township and Mr. Gilbert Brown, Barbecue Township, who were present at this meeting. The Following Reports Were Approved And Filed: Register of Deeds Clerk Recorders Court Veterans Service Officer Tag Collector Clerk Superior Court County Electrical Inspectors Inez Harrington Kyle Harrington Jean M. Irvin W. Earl Jones Elizabeth Matthews L. Perry Cameron B. H. Sellers Commissioner Cotton moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that an amount not to exceed $640.00 be paid to an individual upon advice of W. E. Boykin of the Soil Conservation Department for the expenditure of surveying ponds for building ponds in the county. Motion carried Mr. Hubbard, Director of Welfare Department, appeared before the Board and discussed the food stamp program. Commissioner Cotton moved, seconded by Commissioner O'Quinn, that Harnett County accept the Food Stamp program for the county to begin January 3rd. 1967 and to discontinue the surplus food program as of December 3lst. 1966. Motion carried Commissioner Cotton moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that Mr. Hubbard, Director of Welfare, be given authority to hire additional help with graduate training if the occasion arrives. Motion carried Colonel Alexander appeared before the Board and gave report of the Harnett Agri - Business Development Commission and its continued activity in future develop- ments. Commissioner Cotton moved seconded by Commissioner OtQuinn, that the note of Harnett Livestock & Poultry Cooperative Inc. in the amount of $500.00 due July 29, 1966 be renewed for 2 years upon payment of $60.00 interest. Motion carried Vernon Porter, Consultant of Economic Opportunity Program, gave an invitation to a meeting in which a discussion of Proposed methods of operation of the Planning Task Force and the Guidelines. W. Earl Jones, Tax Collector, gave a report of tax collections for the month. Luby F. Bell, President of First National Bank of Eastern Carolina, appeared to meet the County Commissioners.
