HomeMy WebLinkAbout02011965303 FEBRUARY 1ST. 1965 The Board of Commissioners met Monday, February 1st. 1965, at 10:00 A.M., with all members present. Also present were the County Atorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. Chairman, M. H. Brock, called the meeting to order and introduced Re Beard, minister of Coats Baptist Church who offered the invocation. The reports of the County Officers were approved and filed: Sheriff's office Tax Collectors office Register of Deeds " Clerk of Recorders Court office Veterans Service Office Clerk Superior Court office County Electrical Inspector County Electrical Inspector W. H. Stewart W. Earl Jones Inez Harrington Kyle Harrington Jean Maness Elizabeth F. Matthews L. Perry Cameron B H Sellers v. Howard Public Bond # F217180 with Mike Thomas, Principal, as Deputy Sheriff was approved and filed with Clerk Supatior Court The Following Road Petitions were approved and mailed: (1) To black top that road in Upper Little River Township which turns right at Mason's Store on Highway # 27 to point near the home of Russell Strickland turns back to the left to Highway # 27 a distance of 12 miles. (Petition mailed) (2) To pull up that road which is located about half way of road # 1251 on one end and about half way on Road # 1252 in Upper Little River Town- ship, which is from Dayton Brown's to Willie McLeansresidence a distance of .7 miles (Petition mailed) (3) To hard surface that road in Grove Township which is # 2003, a distance of .5 miles (Petition mailed) Mr. Vernon Porter, N. C. Fund Consultant of the Economic Opportunity Program in Harnett County, appeared before the Board and discussed kta with them the prorated basic cost with Harnett, Lee and Chatham counties joining in the Tri- County program. Frank Lewis, Assistant Civil Defense Director, appeared before the Board and discussed tte Fire District Program. Howard Watkins, Supervisor of Farmers Home Administration, appeared before the Board and explained the loans available under the Economic Opportunity Act from the office of Farmers Home Administration. Commissioner Mixon moved, seconded by Commissioner Cotten, that Robert Stewart, Director of Public Welfare, be authorized to replace Mrs. Helen Crews who is attending school by placing Mr. Robert Stephens in this position at a salary of $350.00 per month. Mr. Stewart was also authorized to raise Mrs. Mary Avery from typist No. 1 to Typist No. 2 at a salary of $261.00 per month. Mr. Stewart was also authorized to employ a typist No. 1 at a salary of $215.00 per month Motion carried. Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner O'Quinn, that Mrs. Addle C. Faucett in the office of the Clerk of Recorders Court be reclassified at a salary of $225.00 per month effective January 1st. 1965. Motion carried. Commissioner Cotten moved, seconded by Commissioner O'Quinn, that the dis- cussion of the Surplus Food Program be deferred to the Board meeting on March 1st. 1965. Motion carried. Commissioner Cotten moved, seconded by Commissioner Mixon, that $500,00 be donated to Harnett County Confederate Centennial Committee for Averasboro Memorial Reenactment Celebration. ()Motion carried) 304 Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner O'Quinn, that the petty cash in the Harnett County Tax Collectors office be increased to $1000.00. Motion carried. C. R. Ammons, Farm Agent of before the Board and explained as provided by county and state activity of the department, and the proposed suggestions for existing on the farms at this t the Agricultural Extension Department appeared the many services and the salaries of the department funds. He also explained the program and the Vance Hamilton, Assistant Farm Agent, explained Successful 65" to improve the economic situations i me Thomas Alien, Tax Supervisor, recommended refunds as follows: Weyerhaeuser Company (North Carblina,Division) Plymouth, N.. C. in Johnsonville Township, was overcharged on 504 acres by survey amount of refund $85.88 less .87 discount taken. In Anderson Creek Township Weyerhaaser Company was over- charged on 151 acres by survey amount of refund $24.06 -less .24 discount taken. In Johnsonville hownship, Ishamel McDonald, Bunnlevel, N. C. # 1 error in pricing land, land was priced on hard surfacr road and should have been priced on no road on 50 acres. Amount of refund 54.63. In Upper Little River Township, Dr. A. W. Peede, Lillington, N. C. was charged 25 acres of cleared land and should -have been charged only 18 acres of cleared land on the 118 acre tract by report of A.S.C. office, amount of refund $7.11 less 7¢ discount taken. Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Cotten, that the re- commendations of the Tax Supervisor_ be accepted as recommended. Motion'' carried.
