Monday, December 7th. with all members present. Also present were the County
Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board.

The following Road Petitions Were approved:
(1) To improve that road in Upper Little River Township which begins
at a point on the Mt. Pisgah road at the Residence of Mrs. W. D. Harrington,
Jr. and extends to the home of Miss Vera McLeod a distance of 1 -1 /10 miles/
(Petition mailed to Mrs. W D Harrington, Jr.)
(2) To add to the system that road in Upper Little River Township
from Highway # 12L5 to 1238 a distance of 2 miles.

Commissioner Byerly moved, seconded by Commission Byrd, that
resolution be and the same is hereby adopted.
R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Almighty God in his infinite wisdom has seen fit to
call to his Heavenly Reward Honorable Lee Bert McLean, Harnett County's
first Veteran Service Officer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McLean served his County, his community and his fellowman
in many and various capacities with unstinting personal sacrifice in war
and in peace; and
WHEREAS, he will long be remembered by County Officials, employees and
a multitude of Veterans and the families of deceased Veterans for his de-
votion to the cause of the men and women who serve their Country in the uniform
of the various services at home and abroad;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the Board
of Harnett County do hereby extend to the loving
and daughters of the late Lee Bert McLean, their
sympathy and do joy with them in a life spent in
and his fellowman;
BE IT FURTHER'R&SOLVED That the original of this resolution be certified
to the family of Mr. McLean, incorporated in the minutes and copies dis-
tributed to the press.

governors as Fire Chief of the Butes Creek Fire Department to fill the
vacancy caused by the resignation of Frank McLeod.

The Board of Commissioners as now, after taking the Oath of office and is
composed of M. //,(Jack) Brock, W. J. Cotton, Jr., Willard M. Mixon, J. E.
Womble and Harvey OtQuinn, met at 1:30 P. M. and named M. H. Brock as temporary
Chairman.
Chairman Brock resigned as a member' of the Welfare Board effective as of
this date.
Chairman Brock called an executive meeting for the purpose of reorganizing
the Board as follows:

The Board ordered the acounty offices closed for the Christmas Holidays
on December 23rd. December 24th. and December 25th. andtthe Board also
ordered the -county offices flosed on Friday, Jan. 1st, New Year's Day.
The Board ordered that a Christmas Wreath be placed on the Court House
Door for the Christmas Holidays.
The Board recessed to reconvene on Tuesday, Dec. 15th. at 7:00 P. M
