HomeMy WebLinkAbout11021964NOVEMEER 2nd. 1964 The Board of Commissioners met in a regular meeting, on Monday, November 2nd. 1964, with Chairman Alex Cameron, Commissioner Worth Lee Byrd, Commissioner Byerly, and Commissioner Brock present. Commissioner Barefoot was absent due to illness. Also present were Neill McKay Ross, County Attorney, Herbert Carson,, Auditor and Inez Harrington, Clerk to the Board. Chairman Cameron called the meeting to order and Commissioner Brook offered the invocation. The following reports of the various W. H. Stewart Kyle Harrington W. (Petition mailed) (3) To improve that road in Averasboro Township known as South Sampson Avenue a distance of 1.1 miles (Petition mailed) (4) To improve or add that road in Upper Little River Township which is. 1 mile in length which runs from Road SR 1129 to SR 1130. (Petition mailed) (5) To improve that dirt road # 1708 in Averasboro Township, a distance of 1.2 miles. (Petition mailed) #1225 The Board ordered that W. Earl Jones, Tax Collector, proceed to take action necessary to collect dilinquent personal taxes which are past due. The Board ordered the County Offices closed on Thursday, November 26th. for Thanksgiving Day. Commissioner Brock moved, seconded by Commissioner Byerly, that Robert Stewart, Director of Public Welfare, be allotted two Public Welfare workers in lieu of two child welfare workers who are leaving Harnett County. Motion carried. The Board approved salary of Frank Lewis, Assistant Civil Defense $517.00 per month retroactive to July 1, 1964. Director at 269 Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Brock, to authorize the expenditure of $3,000.00 for Civil Defense expenses. Motion carried. The Following Resolution Was Unanimously Adopted: WHEREAS it having been made to appear to the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that Erwin Mills, Inc. has acquired all property to Street # 1765 from the corner of Street # 1758 to the corer of Street # 1756 and Street # 1757 to Street # 1765 and the Erwin Mills,Inc. desires to develop the adjacent property including Streets for In- dustrial purposes and WHEREAS it has been made to appear to the Board of Commissioners that there is no objection to this purposal THEREFORE be it resolved by the Board of Cpmmissioners of Harnett County that it does hereby recommend to N. C. State Highway Commission that Street # 1765 from the corner of Street # 1758 to the corner of Street # 1756 and Street # 1757 to Street # 1765 be withdrawn and abandoned for the use of development by the Erwin Mills, Inc. in its proposed expansion of the Erwin Mills, Ino. plant.
