HomeMy WebLinkAbout08241964242 August 24th. 1964 The Board of Commissioners with all members present except Chairman, Alex Cameron, met jointly on Monday August 24th. at 7 ;30 P. M. with the Harnett Agri - Business Development Cpmmittee. Also present at the meeting were the Auditor, the County Attorney, and the Clerk to the Board. A. C. Barefoot, Vice- Chairman, called the meeting to order and presided. Dr. Bruce Blackmon, Buies Creek, appeared before the Board in the interest of the Polio Vaoine Program. Commissioner Brock moved, seconded by Commissioner Byrd, that any funds left over from the vacine program be equally divided between Good Hope Hospital in Erwin and Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn. The Board ordered the County Offices closed on Monday, September 7th. for Labor Day. The Board will hold the regular September meeting on Tuesday, September 8th. at 10:00 A.M. Commissioner Byerly moved, seconded by Commissioner Brock, that the following resolution be and the same is hereby adopted. R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County, after a thorough investigation, is of the opinion that it is for the best interest for the County of Harnett and its citizens that an economic development commission be created in the county to serve the entire geographical area of Harnett County, the Commission to be Known as Harnett Agri - Business' Development Commission, that the members of the Commission hereinafter appointed shall be selected by the Board from the body of the county and shall serve for a term of one year from September 1964. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the following Guyton Smith, Dunn, N. C. District # 1 H. Douglas Moore, Erwin, N. C. District # 2 D. W. Denning, Angier, N. C. District # 3 Melvin Turlingt/o°n,fnLlillington, N. C. District # 4 Thurman L. Norr� ?s Sanford N. C. Rt. 6 District # 5 are hereby appointed to the Harnett Agri- Busire ss :Development•Commission and that pursuant to Chapter 158 Article II, said Commission shall proceed to organize and to file with the Board of County Commissioners, for its approval, such rules and regulations as it may deem necessary, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That an appropriation of $15,000.00, from', non -tax sources, is hereby appropriated for the operation of said Commission in accordance with Article II, Chapter 158, of the General Statutes. BE IT Statute, per mile ceive as $.07 per FURTHER RESOLVED That the Chairman, elected pursuant to said shall receive per dime compensation of $15.00 per day and $.07 for authorized travel; that the members of said Board shall re- compensation the sum of $12.00 per dime plus authorized travel at mile. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the Commission herein named shall, after the election of the officers as provided by Statute, submit to the Board of County Commissioners, for its approval, a budget; expenditures against the budget, hereby authorized, shall be paid by the County's fiscal officer, in the same manner as expenditures of other administrative units of the County and the fiscal affairs of said Commission shall be audited in the same manner as other administrative bodies of the county. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That any resolutions, heretofore adopted, in conflict with this resolution are hereby repealed. Commissioner Brock moved, seconded by Commissioner Byrd, that the following resolution be and the same is hereby adopted. BE IT RESOLVED That the following be named members as advisatory committee to the Harnett Agri- Business Commission 243 Mayors of the respective towns of- Dunn, Lillington, Angier and Coats Presidents of the Chamber of Commerce of the respective towns of, Dunn, Lillington, Angier and Coats G.
