HomeMy WebLinkAbout04061964199 APRIL 6th. 1964 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday April 6th. at 10 :00 A. M. with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor ard the Clerk to the Board. Chairman Cameron called the meeting to order and introduced Rev. Will C. Crumplen, pastor of Mount Pisgah and Leaflet Presbyterian churches, who gave the invooation. The following reports from the various offices were approved and filed: Register of Deeds Clerk of Superior Court Tax Collector Clerk of Recorders Court Veterans Service Officer Electrical Inspectors Inez Harrington Elizabeth Matthews D P Ray Kyle Harrington Jean Maness ( B H Seller ( Roy Godwin At the request of the Board of Commissioners the Harnett County Development Committee met with the Board and discussed plans for the Development in Harnett County. The Committee then met and formerly adopted the name Harnett County Agri - Business Development Committee and named R. M. Trulington as Chairman and Art Denning Recording Secretary of the Committee Also named the following additional members to the Committee: J. A. Seater, Mayor, Lillington, N. C. Jaok Marley, Mayor, Angier, N. C. George Franklin Blalock, Mayor, Dunn, N. C. C W Howell, Erwin, N. C. Series Johnson, Lillington N. C. Rt.1 William Harper (Fa=wn Bureau Office) Buckhorn Twp. Lillington N. C. W if. Cotton, Kipling, N. C. (Hector's Creek Twp.) Roy Byrd, Bunnlevel, N. C. (Stewart's Creek Twp.) Fred Taylor, Spring Lake Rt. 1 (Anderson Creek Twp.) W A Shaw, Spring Lake N. C. Rt. 1 ( Anderspn Creek Twp.) H L West, Sanfored N. C. Rt. 6 (Johnsonville Twp.) The duty of this Committee is to organize a County Wide Industrial Development Program and help carry it out. A "Kick -off" dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 15th. at 7:00 P.M. in the agricultural building, with guest speaker and a representative from Conservation and Development present. Commissioner Barefoot moved, seconded by Commissioner Byerly, that the Bond of Otis Harvell, Tax Revaluation Supervisor, be and the same is hereby released. Motion carried. The Board ordered thatthe administrative head of each office in the county present to the auditor the 1964x65 Budget on or before May 1st. 1964. Upon recommendation of Thomas Allen, Tax Supervisor, the Board ordered that $1.00 be refunded to Meta Godwin, 901 Erwin Road, Dunn , N. C. on a000unt of error in listing tax. The Following Road Petitions Were Approved: (1) To improve that road in Grove Twp. known as Road No. 1547 and 1548 (Old Stage Road) a distance of i mile. Petition given to Comm. Brock. To add to the State System that Street known as Johnson Drive,.3 miles, in Duke Twp. between Dunn and Erwin near Raynor's Esso Station. Petition given to Comm. Brook. To add to the State maintained Road System that road in Duke twp. which will be an extension of Road No. 1826 a distance of 3/10 mile Petition given to Comm. Brook. (4) To add to the State System that road known as the Rainey Road at Twin Lakes a distance of 2 miles. Petition mailed to H. A. Giles, Spring Lake N C Rt. j (5) To add to the State Road System that road leading north below Eugene Brown's home to the dead end road No. 1242 a distance of .7 mile. Petition mailed to State Highway Division office. 200 (6) To add to the State System that road which leads off of the Rural paved road running from Olivia to Johnsonville which is No. 1201 to the rural paved road which leads off Highway No. 27 east of Mount Miriah Church and runs to Lemon Springs which is No. 1001 2* mi.. (Petition mailed to State Highway Division.) To add to the State System that dirt road leading off near Johnsonville Road to Olivia which is rural paved runs to N. C. Highway 87 a distance -of 1 mile (Petition Mailed to State Highway Division) That, road in Grove Twp. a distance of z mile to be added to the State System and given to J. R. Mann for presentation. That road in Averasboro Twp.. to be added to theSystem which Pope Road at the edge of the City limits of Dunn a distance (Petition mailed to State Highway Division.) (7) from Highway No. 27 road No. 1202 and: is off of the of 724 feet. To improve that road in Black River Township which is No. 15t3 and make an all - weather road a distance of 1-1/10 Miles. (Petition mailed to the State Highway Division.) The Following Proclamation Was Adopted: WHEREAS, the industries of Harnett County make a substantial contribution to the economic well being of the county, by emptying citizens of the county, by buying items grown or produced in the county, and by,,paying taxes to help sup- port county services, and WHEREAS, the efforts to encourage the location of additional industry inthe county at times may appear to overshadow the contributions now being made by existing industries; and WHEREAS, Terry Sanford, Governor of North Carolina, has designated the week of April 12 to 18, 1964 as Industry Appreciation Week throughout -North Carolina; NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board 6f County Commissioners of HarnettGounty, North Carolina, thht the week of April 12 to 18, 1964 be Industry Appreciation Week in Harnett County, thereby providing an opportunity for all officials and citizens to express appreciation for the great contribution made by industry to the county. During this week, newspapers and television and radio stations serving the county.should acquaint the people of the county with the contribution being made by industry. In turn, the people of the county should, as individuals, express their appreciation to the owners, managers, and employees of, industry for this contribution. The leaders in each of the various communities in the county are en- couraged to designate a day during Industry Appreciation Week, at which time the eommunitymay, as it deems appropriate, recognize the contribution -of its own industry: Adopted this the Sixty Day of April, 1964.
