SPECIAL MEETING - July 24, 1969
SPECIAL MEETING The Harnett County Board of Commissioners convened in special
session Thursday, July 24, 1969. Those present were: Messrs. M. H.
Brock, Chairman, D. P. Ray, Jr., Vice - Chairman, C. E. McLamb, member
and Gilbert Brown, member. Also present, Messrs. Gerald Arnold, County
Attorney and Herbert D. Carson, Jr. Clerk to the Board.
CALL TO ORDER Chairman M. H. Brock called the meeting to order at 8:10 p.m.
and was the presiding officer.
PURPOSE OF MEETING The meeting was called in order to hold a public hearing for the
Buies Creek Fire District and to meet with the Harnett County Livestock
and Poultry Association.
ORDER OF BUSINESS
BUIES CREEK FIRE
DISTRICT
Item 1.
Mr. Vernon Porter, Community Service Consultant for Harnett Coun
was recognized by Mr. Brock &commended for his outstanding service to
county particularly his work with the training program under the Manp
Development Training Act. He noted that Mr. Porter was instrumental
establishing and maintaining this program at the Maple Grove School i
Dunn. It was announced that Mr. Porter will be leaving the county as
August 1, 1969 and the members of the Board expressed their personal
appreciation for his contribution to the county.

Mr. Porter expressed his appreciation to the commissioners for their
help and support during histenure of office.
Item 2.
Mr. Brock declared the meeting open for the public hearing of th
petition of the Buies Creek Fire District the purpose bang to extend
to boundaries of the district. Mr. Edward McCormick reported to the
Board that all necessary and proper steps had been taken for the publ
hearing. Mr. Frank Lewis presented a map designating the exact locat
of the proposed extended boundaries.
There was no opposition to the proposed extension.
Mr. Edward McCormick was instructed to prepare and present the
necessary resolution for adoption at the next regular meeting of the
Board. Action will be taken at that time to extend the boundaries of
the Buies Creek Fire District.
HARNETT COUNTY Item 3.

IVESTOCK AND POULTRY Mr. Granville Tilghman, Mr. Edward Byrd, members of the Board
ASSOCIATION and Mr. James Johnson, attorney for the Association appreared before
the Board on behalf of the Harnett County Livestock and Poultry
Association.
ADJOURNMENT
July 24, 1969
The matter presented for consideration was the disposition of th
property of the Association which is in the name of Harnett County.
Mr. Johnson and Mr. Byrd spoke for the Association and after
discussion, it was agreed to proceed with disposing of the property.
It was pointed out that a favorable bid is now open on the property.
After further discussion, the fallowing motion was made by Mr.
Ray.
It was moved that the county put the Harnett County Livestock
and Poultry Association arena up for public sale and that the money
be placed in escrow and that Mr. Gerald Arnold and Mr. James Johnson
be appointed as trustees.
Motion was seconded by Mr. McLamb and carried unanimously.
Mr. Brock instructed Mr. Arnold to proceed with the necessary
legal action according to statute to dispose of the property.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at
9:05 p.m.
