and Review
The County Board of Commissioners convened and sat as a
County Board of Equalization and Review for the first meeting
of 1969 on Monday, April 28, 1969 at 10:00 a.m. in the Court-
house in Lillington, North Carolina. All Commissioners were
present. The meeting was called to order by M. H. Brock,
Chairman of the Board. Before entering upon their duties,
all members of the Board subscribed to the following oath
and filed same with the Clerk of the Board of County Commis-
sioners:
"I, , do solemnly swear that I will
faithfully discharge my duties as a member of the Board of
Equalization and Review of Harnett County, North Carolina,
and that I will not allow my actions as a member of said
Board to be influenced by a personal political friendship or
obligation."
Board members taking above oath are as listed:
M. H. Brock, W. J. Cotton, Jr., D. P. Ray, Jr., C. E. McLamb,
and Gilbert Brown.
The following townships were given an opportunity to come
in before the Equalization Board and be heard: Anderson Creek,
Barbecue, Black River, Grove, Duke, Hectors Creek, Johnsonville,
and Neils Creek.
The Equalization Board recessed after ample time was given
for taxpayers whose values had been disturbed to appear before
the Board.
The County Board of Commissioners convened as a Board of
Equalization and Review for the second meeting for 1969 on Monday,
May 12, 1969 at 10:00 a.m. in the Courthouse, Lillington, North
Carolina. All Commissioners were present.
The following townships were given the privilege of appearing
before the Equalization Board: Averasboro, Buckhorn, Lillington,
Stewarts Creek, and Upper Little River.
Mrs. Henry G. Whitehead appeared before the Board for propert
located at 211 North King Avenue and corner of Harnett Street,
known as the Funeral Home; building valued at $15,401. Mrs.
Whitehead was notified that the Board would review her building
and would make a decision at a later date.
The Equalization Board recessed after ample time was given
for taxpayers whose values had been disturbed to appear before
the Board.
The County Board of Commissioners convened as a Board of
Equalization and Review on Monday, May 19, 1969 for third and
final meeting for the year 1969. All members were present except,
Mr. D. P. Ray, Jr.
No taxpayer appeared before the Board.
The Board reviewed the value of Mrs. Henry G. Whitehead's
property and upon a motion by Mr. Cotton, seconded by Mr. Brown,
the value remained the same.
The Board of Equalization and Review adjourned for the
year 1969 after ample time was given for taxpayers whose values
had been disturbed to appear before the Board.

A special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners
convened on Thursday, June 5, 1969 at 8:45 p.m. in the Commissioners'
Room, Courthouse, Lillington, North Carolina. Members present were:
M. H. Brock, W. J. Cotton, Jr. D. P. Ray, Jr. C. E. McLamb and
Gilbert Brown. Also present Herbert Carson, Clerk to the Board.
The Commissioners met in special session with members of
the Board of Education for the purpose of discussion of the
budget of the department. Members of the Board of Education
present were: Messrs. R. A. Gray, Dr. N. E. Jones, No Wortman,
J. R. Baggett, Haywood Roberts and Dr. C. L. Corbett.
After discussion of the proposed budget and there being no
further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:55 p.m.

A special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners
convened on Monday, June 9, 1969 at 11:10 a.m. in the Commissioners'
Room, Courthouse, Lillington, North Carolina. Members present were:
Messrs. M. H. Brock, W. J. Cotton, Jr., C. E. McLamb, D. P. Ray, Jr
and Gilbert Brown. Also attending, Messrs. H. D. Carson, Jr., Clerk
to the Board and Gerald Arnold, County Attorney.
PURPOSE OF MEETING The purpose of the meeting was to tentatively adopt the
proposed county budget for the fiscal year 1969 -70.
ACTION:
Upon a motion by Mr. W. J. Cotton, Jr., seconded by Mr.
C. E. McLamb, the 1969 -70 budget was tentatively adopted.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned
at 12:00 p. m.
