HomeMy WebLinkAbout05191969292 Special Meeting_May__19z_1969___ Special Meeting May 19, 1969 (Joint Meeting) CALLED TO ORDER A special joint meeting of the Board of Commissioners was held on Monday, May 19, 1969 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' room, Courthouse, Lillington, North Carolina with the Board of Educat The meeting was called to order by Chairman M. H. Brock who presided. PURPOSE OF MEETING The Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education met in special session for the purpose of hearing the school budget for the fiscal year 1969 -70. ATTENDING RESOLUTION SALES TAX OPTION ADJOURNMENT ATTEST: Those attending were: Board of Commissioners: M. H. Brock, Chairman W. J. Cotton, Jr., Commissioner C. E. McLamb, Commissioner Gilbert Brown, Commissioner Gerald Arnold, County Attorney H. D. Carson, Jr., Clerk to the Board Absent: D. P. Ray, Jr. Vice - Chairman Board of Education: J. R. Baggett, Jr., Chairman Dr. C. L. Corbett, member Hoke Smith, member Haywood Roberts, member R. Alton Gray, Superintendent of Schools Dr. N. E. Jones, Assistant Superintendent of Schools No Wortman, Assistant Superintendent of Schools NORTH CAROLINA HARNETT COUNTY R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners feel that Harnett County and its incorporated municiplities are in need of additional revenue to meet their growing financial needs, and upon further consideration feel that the voters of Harnett County should be given the option at a special election to levy a one per cent (1 %) sales and use tax with the proceeds of the tax to be distributed to Harnett County and its incorporated municipalities on a per capita basis, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Harnett County Board of Commissioners are in favor of allowing the voters of Harnett County, at a special election, to determine whether or not a one per cent (1 %) sales and use tax be adopted and levied, with the proceeds of said tax, if adopted by the voters, to be distributed to Harnett County and its incorporated municipalities on a per capita basis. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Harnett County Board of Commissioners hereby request the Honorable William Staton to introduc legislation to provide Harnett County with the sales tax option as hereinabove recommended. s/t M.
