HomeMy WebLinkAbout04101969SPECIAL MEETING APRIL 10, 1969 LPRIL 10, 1969 SPECIAL MEETING ALL TO ORDER URPOSE OF EETING RDER OF USINESS The Board of County Commissioners met in special session on Thursday, April 10, 1969 at Jimmy's Restaurant, Buie's Creek, North Carolina. Those present were: Messrs. M. H. Brock, W. J. Cotton, Jr., C. E. McLamb, D. P. Ray, Jr. and Gilbert Brown, member of the Board; Messrs. Gerald Arnold, County Attorney; Herbert D. Carson, Jr., Clerk to the Board; James F. Penny, Jr., State Representative and Walter Lee Johnson, County Surveyor. Mr. M. H. Brock, Chairman of the Board and presiding officer, called the meeting to order at 7:50 p.m. The Board was called into special session for the purpose of discussing pending local legislation with our Representative, Mr. James F. Penny and Mr. Walter Lee Johnson, County Surveyor. Items of special significance to the county were discussed. After completion of the stated business, the following matters were brought before the Board: Item 1. 282 OURTHOUSE QUARE The need for lights in the Courthouse Square Parking Lot ARKING LOT was brought to the attention of the Board. After discussion, IGHTS it was decided to request the Town of Lillington to contract for the installation of the lights under their municipal con- tract since the cost would be much lower than the county could obtain under an individual contract. An annual utility bill will be submitted to the county by the town. Motion to this effect was made by Mr. C. E. McLamb, seconded by Mr.Ray.J NDORSEMENT OF Item 2. . P. RIDDLE OR SHC POST A discussion was held concerning the position for Commissioner of the State Highway Commission for District 2. The Board unanimously endorsed Mr. J. P. Riddle of Fayetteville, North Carolina for this post by the following actions: 1. Upon a motion by Mr. W. J. Cotton, Jr., seconded by Mr. C. E. McLamb, the Board voiced wholeheated support of Mr. Riddle for this position. 2. The following letter of endorsement was addressed to Governor Scott: April 10, 1969 The Honorable Robert W. Scott The Governor of North Carolina Raleigh, North Carolina Dear Governor Scott: At a recent informal meeting of the Board of Commissioners, the members strongly endorsed the appointment of Mr. J. P. Riddle of Fayetteville as Highway Commissioner of District 2. We are confi- dent that Mr. Riddle, if appointed to the Commission, will acquit himself well and will be an outstanding member of that organization. On behalf of the citizens and the government of Harnett County, I should like to encourage the appointment of Mr. Riddle to the post for which he is under consideration. I feel that he is deserving of the recognition and the high honor of serving your administration in this capacity. Please be assured of our good wishes for your continued success.
