JUNE 5th. 1967
The Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County met in a regular session
on Monday, June 5th. at 10:00 a.m., with Chairman Brock, Commissioners Womble,
Brown, Cotton and McLamb present. Also present were County Attorney, Wiley
Bowen, Herbert Carson, Auditor and Inez Harrington, Clerk to the Board.
Chairman Brock called the meeting to order and opened wit'a prayer.
The Minutes of the May meetings were read and approved.
W. Earl Jones, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and discussed
detailed report of tax collections as of May 31st. 1967.
Thomas Allen, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and discussed
the tax valuation increase and new valuation for the year 1967.

James Goff, Assistant Farm Agent, appeared before the Board and introduced
Mohan Parasad Achaya of Nepal India, an exchange student who will be in
Harnett County for one month.
Marshall Woodall, Welfare Tax Lien Attorney, appeared before the Board and
presented the following report.

Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Brown that the foregoing
resolution be adopted.

The Following Road Petitions Were Approved:
(1) That a straight entrance be provided from the hard surface
and utilize the existing road directly to the front of the church
known as Davis Chapel Church, Erwin # 1 a distance of 1/8 mile
in Duke Township.

(2) To Black Top that farm Road # 2036 in Stewart's Creek Township,
a distance of 3 -5/10 miles.

(3) To work and pave that road SR 1288 a distance of 1.0 mile

(4) A request that SR 1246 from SR 1244 northwardly 6/10 miles

(5) Be It Resolved by the Harnett County Board of Commissioners at a
regular meeting: and
That the Commissioners recommend /respectfully
request that the North Carolina Highway Commission pave the Susan
Tart Road, Rural Road 1844, extending from South McKay Avenue,
Chicken Farm Road, via the new Dunn Hospital site, to the old
Dunn -Erwin Road, In order to provide additional access to the new
Hospital.

(6) The following resolution was adopted by the Board of Commissioners
of Harne tt County
Whereas, five deaths, numerious injuries, and substantial property
damages have occured in automobile accidents at the intersection of
U. S. Highway 421 & 55 near Erwin, Harnett County, and
Whereas, the Board of Commissioners believe that traffic signal
lights and signs would reduce some of the dangers of this hazardous
intersection, and
Therefore, the Commissioners recommend that the North Carolina
Highway Commission immediately install an appropriate signal and
sign system at the said intersection.

A request from Senator Robert Morgan from the Board of Education for a
School Bond Election was presented and tabled for a later date and for further
discussions.
W. A. Messer appeared before the Board in the interest of Ambulance service
for Harnett County. The matter was tabled and held for further information.
Ed Bain representing and spokesman for a delegation from Bunnlevel appeared
before the Board in the interest of keeping open the Bunnlevel School. A
Discussion was held and no decision was made.
Commissioner Cotton moved, seconded by Commissioner Brown, that the Board
of Commissioners of Harnett County petition in protest to the Utility Comm-
ission regarding the Telephone service in Harnett County.
Motion carried.
Commissioner Cotton moved, seconded by Commissioner McLamb, that the Board
of Commissioners not accept the suggestions of the Harnett County Medical
Society in regard to the indigent oases of the Welfare Department. The Medical
Society suggested that Five Dollars be paid to physicians for examination and
filling out of forms on welfare applicants and that the welfare Department pay
physicians fifty dollars for delivery of indigent patients who get pre -natal
and post- partum care in the Harnett County Health Department.
Motion carried.
Commissioner McLamb moved, seconded by Commissioner Brown, that W. H.
Stewart, be and he is hereby authorized to purchase from the State Purchase
Department 2 cars for Harnett County Sheriffs Department not to exceed $2600.00.
Motion carried.

Commissioner Mc Lamb moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that John
Ingraham, Public Accountant, be employed by the county to audit the county
offices at a cost not to exceed $1600.00.
Motion carried.
The Board appointed Thomas Allen Harnett County
of 2 years ending June 30th. 1969.
Tax Supervisor for a term
The Board appointed W. Earl Jones Tax Collector to continue as Tax
Collector at the pleasure of the Board.
The Board of Commissioners will be quest of Senator Robert Morgan and
Representatives Staton and Love at dinner on Wednesday, June 7th. at 7:00
p.m., at the Sir Walter Hotel.
TheBoard will meet on or about June 15th, for the purpose of
Budget for 1967.68.
