HomeMy WebLinkAbout1025197650 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING CALLED FOR OCTOBER 25, 1976 SPECIAL MEETING The Board of Commissioners met in special session on October 25, 1976, in the Commissioners Meeting Room, at 8:00 A.M., for the purpose of declaring November as Law and Order Appreciation Month in Harnett County. Bobby R. Etheridge, Chairman of the Board, presided over the meeting. He called the meeting to order at 8:00 A.M. with Commissioners Brock and Stewart in attendance. PRAYER The Chairman led the morning prayer. PURPOSE Resolution Action The Chairman informed those present that the purpose of the meet- ing was to bring the Sheriff's Department, the Board of Education and the Police Liaison Officers together to devise plans and methods to bring into focus the need for law enforcement and co- operation of all officers for the County. The following resolution was presented for the pleasure of the Board and to the credit of those present: RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING NOVEMBER AS LAW AND ORDER APPRECIATION MONTH IN HARNETT COUNTY. Since the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County is appreciative of efforts by the Courts, law enforcement officials and the schools for fostering an appreciation of and respect for the law; and Since the Board of Commissioners desire that these efforts be recogniz by setting aside a time to honor our legal institutions and officials who en- force, promote and support the rule of law; BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett Coun 1. That the month of November be and the same is hereby declared Law and Order Appreciation Month in Harnett County. 2. That the Judges, the Clerk of Superior Court, Solicitors, Lawyers and other officers of the Court be and they are hereby recognized for admin- istering justice in a manner that creates respect for our Court. system. 3. That the Board of Education be and it is hereby recognized for its emphasis on the fair administration of justice and for its leadership role in fostering FPCJ Chapters throughout the school system of Harnett County. 4. That the Sheriff of Harnett County and all his staff be and they are hereby recognized for their efforts in fairly administering the law in Harnett County. 5. That the North Caxdina Highway Patrol, the State Bureau of Investi gation and other special State units be and they are hereby recognized for outstanding assistance rendered to the Sheriff's Department and other agencies of the county. 6. That tlEpolice chiefs in Angier, Coats, Lillington, Erwin and Dunn and their staff be and they are hereby recognized, not only for the fine work they do in their respective towns, but for cooperating with and helping the Sheriff, his staff and other county officials in law enforcement matters of mutual concern. 7. That the Security Dhief of Campbell College and his staff, be and they are hereby recognized for the outstanding contribution to Campbell Colleg students, Campbell College and the Community of BuiestCreek, S. That the three liaison officers working between the Sheriff's De- partment and the school units of the County be and they are hereby recognized for their work among the young, and especially for their help in organizing and promoting FPCJ Chapters in our high schools. d 9. That each citizen who promotes law and order and who fosters respect for our traditions, be and he is hereby recognized for his contributions be- cause, wththout hime, and the other ninety -five (95) per cent of the people like him, the law would be forgotten and order, as we know it, would not exist. This the 25th day of October, 1976. Commissioner Brock moved for the adoption of the foregoing res- olution, Commissioner Stewart seconded the motion and the issue passed unanimously. The group discussed plans to be executed throughtout the school system to expose the population of the county to procedures of law enforcement, techniques that are used and machinery such as police cars, use of lights, counseling and other methods. ti r Plans were discussed also for the municipalities of the county to hold sessions of law enforcement with guest speakers well known in the law enforcement areas of our county, state and nation. These meetings will all take place during the month of November, 1976, herein proclaimed as "Law and Order Appreciation Month in Harnett County." Adjourned The meeting adjourned at 8:40 A.M.
