HomeMy WebLinkAbout0706198731c PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING ROOM OCCUPANCY TAX AND TOURISM DEVELOPMENT TAX IN AVERASBORO TOWNSHIP JULY 6, 1987 1 On July 6, 1987, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing concerning Room Occupancy Tax and Tourism Development Tax in Averasboro Township with the following members present: Bill Shaw, Rudy Collins, Mack Reid Hudson, Mayo Smith, and Chairman Lloyd G. Stewart presiding. Others present included: Vanessa W. Young, Clerk to the Board; Dallas H. Pope, County Manager; Glenn Johnson, County Attorney, and Kay S. Blanchard, Recording Secretary. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Stewart called the public hearing to order at 9:00 a.m. PURPOSE Glenn Johnson, County Attorney, explained the purpose of the public hearing was to receive public comments concerning the establishment of a room occupancy tax and tourism development tax in Averasboro township. PUBLIC COMMENTS Chairman Stewart opened the meeting for public comments. Mr. Charles Wright, 905 Merry St., Dunn, representing the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce, explained the room occupancy tax proposal in detail. Mr. Wright explained the authorization and scope of the tax as well as collection administration, penalties, and distribution and use of tax revenue. Mr. Wright stated the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce strongly supported the passage of the tax. Mr. Irvin Warren, President, Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Abe Elmore, Dunn, N. C., spoke in support of the proposed tax. PUBLIC HEARING There being no further comments, Chairman Stewart closed the public hearing at CLOSED 9:20 a.m. Lloyd Je.
