PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING ZONING FOR HARNETT COUNTY
SOUTH OF THE CAPE FEAR RIVER
On February 28, 1989, the Harnett County Commissioners held a
public hearing to solicit the views of the citizens on the zoning
map for the area of Harnett County south of the Cape Fear River.

OPENED FOR COMMENTS Chairman Stewart opened the floor for public comments.
Ed Bain, a Lillington attorney, presented the commissioners with
a petition listing citizens from the Anderson Creek, Barbecue,
and Stewart's Creek townships who were opposed to zoning. He
stated that with the present zoning ordinance, the planning
office was trying to zone him out of the business of selling lots
on which to put manufactured homes.
Many of the proponents were presented at the public hearing to
both support zoning and asked for specific requests or comments
about the process. Following is a list of those citizens:

2. Sarah Grainger
3. Felton Cook
4. Douglas Wilson
5. James Hamilton
6. Holt Felmet, Attorney and representative for Anderson
Creek Ruritan Club
7. Jerry Bullock
8. Carolyn Brown
Other property owners were opposed to zoning as a whole, but has
specific requests or comments about the process. Following is a
list of those citizens:
1. Ronnie Thorne
2. Lester Chalmers
3. Bill Flowers
4. Martin B. Barefoot
5. Richard Stephens
6. Ben Davis
7. James Young
8. Richard Longnecker
Other property owners made specific requests to the board.
Following is a list of those citizens:
1. Ron Papick
2. Betty Wallace
Topics such as the concern for the lack of water and sewer
services in the southern part of the county, property values,
undesirable businesses, and manufactured homes having the tongue
removed, were also discussed by the citizens.
CLOSED PUBLIC HEAR- There being no further business, Mr. Stewart, then, closed the
