1) GRADE THE BASIN SO THAT THE BOTTOM IS LEVEL FRONT TO BACK AND
SIDE TO SIDE.
2) INSTALL POSTS OR SAW HORSES THE WIDTH OF THE SEDIMENT TRAP.
3) STEEL POSTS SHOULD BE DRIVEN TO A DEPTH OF 24 INCHES, SPACED A
MAXIMUM OF 4 FEET APART, AND INSTALLED UO THE SIDES OF THE BASIN
AS WELL, THE TOP OF THE FABRIC SHOULD BE 6 INCHES HIGHER THAN
THE INVERT OF THE SPILLWAY. TOPS OF BAFFLES SHOULD BE 2 INCHES
LOWER THAN THE TOP OF THE BERMS.
4) INSTALL AT LEAST THREE ROWS OF BAFFLES BETWEEN THE INLET AND
OUTLETDISCHARGE POINT. BASINS 20 FEET IN LENGTH MAY USE 2 BAFFLES,
5) WHEN USING POSTS, ADO SUPPORT WIRE OR ROPE ACROSS THE TOP OF
THE MEASURE 70 PREVENT .SAGGING.
6) WRAP POROUS MATERIAL, LIKE JUTE BACKED BY COIR MATERIAL, OVER SAW
HORSES OR THE TOP WIRE. HAMMER REBAR INTO SAWHORSE LEGS FOR
ANCHORING. THE FABRIC SHOULD HAVE FIVE TO TEN PERCENT OPENINGS IN
THE WEAVE. ATTACH FABRIC TO A ROPE AND A SUPPORT STRUCTURE WITH
ZIP TIES, WIRE, OR STAPLES.
7) THE BOTTOM AND SIDES OF THE FABRIC SHOULD BE ANCHORED IN A
TRENCH OR PINNED WITH 8 -INCH EROSION CONTROL MATTING STAPLES.
8) DO NOT SPLICE FABRIC, BUT USE A CONTINUOUS PIECE ACROSS THE
BASIN.
MAINTENANCE ERIA
1) INSPECT BAFFLES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND AFTER EACH RAINFALL. MAKE
ANY REQUIRED REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY.
2) BE SURE TO MAINTAIN ACCESS TO BAFFLES. SHOULD THE FABRIC OF THE
BAFFLE COLLAPSE TEAR, DECOMPOSE OR BECOME INEFFECTIVE, REPLACE IT
PROMPTLY.. l�
3) REMOVE SEDIMENT DEPOSITS WHEN IT REACHES HALF FULL TO PROVIDE
ADEQUATE STORAGE VOLUME FOR THE NEXT RAIN AND TO REDUCE
PRESSURE ON THE BAFFLES. TAKE CARE TO AVOID DAMAGING THE
BAFFLES DURING CLEAN OUT. SEDIMENT DEPTH SHOULD NEVER EXCEED
HALF THE DESIGN �TORAGE DEPTH.

5) ENSURE THAT THE MAXIMUM SPACING BETWEEN DAMS PLACES THE TOE OF THE
UPSTREAM DAM AT THE SAME ELEVATION AS THE TOP OF THE DOWNSTREAM DAM.
6) STABILIZE OUTFLOW AREAS ALONG THE CHANNEL TO RESIST EROSION.
7) USE NCDOT CLASS B STONE AND LINE THE UPSTREAM SIDE OF THE DAM WITH
NCDOT #5 OR #57 STONE.
8) KEY THE STONE INTO THE DITCH BANKS AND EXTEND IT BEYOND THE ABUTMENTS
A MINIMUM OF 1.5 FEET TO AVOID WASHOUT FROM OVERFLOW AROUND THE DAM,
MAINTENANCE CRITERIA
1) INSPECT CHECK DAMS AND CHANNELS AT LEAST WEEKLY AND AFTER EACH
SIGNIFICANT (1!2 INCH OR GREATER) RAINFALL EVENT AND REPAIR IMMEDIATELY.
CLEAN OUT SEDIMENT STRAW, LIMBS AND OTHER DEBRIS THAT COULD CLOG THE
CHANNEL WHEN NEEDED.
2) ANTICIPATE SUBMERGENCE AND DEPOSITION ABOVE THE CHECK DAM AND EROSION
FROM HIGH FLOWS FROM AROUND THE DAM. CORRECT ALL DAMAGE IMMEDIATELY.
IF SIGNIFICANT EROSIONS OCCURS BETWEEN DAMS, ADDITIONAL MEASURES CAN BE
TAKEN SUCH AS INSTALLING A PROTECTIVE RIP RAP LINER IN THAT PORTION OF
THE CHANNEL.
3) REMOVE SEDIMENT ACCUMULATED BEHIND THE DAMS AS NEEDED TO PREVENT
DAMAGE TO CHANNEL VEGETATION, ALLOW THE CHANNEL TO DRAIN THE STONE
CHECK DAM AND PREVENT LARGE FLOWS FROM CARRYING SEDIMENT OVER THE
DAM. ADD STONES TO DAMS AS NEEDED TO MAINTAIN DESIGN HEIGHT AND CROSS

Erosion Control Measures
1. ALL WORK WILL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NCDENR. NO LAND
DISTURBING ACTIVITY BEYOND THAT REQUIRED TO INSTALL THE
APPROPRIATE EROSION CONTROL MEASURES MAY PROCEED UNTIL
MEASURES ARE APPROVED BY THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA.
2. FOLLOWING SITE CLEARING, ALL SEDIMENT BASINS, STORM DRAINAGE
CULVERTS, ARD STRUCTURES SHALL BE INSTALLED. ROCK INLET
SEDIMENT TRAPS AND PIPE INLET PROTECTION SHALL BE PLACED
AROUND ALL DRAINAGE STRUCTURES TO COLLECT SURFACE RUNOFF
AND CONTROL SILTATION AND RELEASE WATER AT A GRADUAL
RATE. ALL EASEMENTS OUTSIDE THE PAVED AREAS WHERE STORM
PIPES ARE INSTALLED WILL BE GRADED, SEEDED AND MULCHED.
3. STREETS SHALL HAVE STONE BASE PLACED ON THEM FOR
STABILIZATION AND SHOULDERS SHALL BE SEEDED TO STABILIZE
THE SOIL. SEED BED PREPARATION SHALL BE CONDUCTED
ACCORDING TO NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROADS AND STRUCTURES (D.O.T).
THE GROUND SURFACE SHALL BE CLEARED OF STUMPS, STONES,
ROOTS, CABLES, WIRE, GRADE STAKES, AND OTHER MATERIALS
THAT MIGHT HINDER PROPER GRADING, TILLAGE, SEEDING OR
SUBSEQUENT MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS. GRADES ON THE AREA TO
BE SEEDED SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN A TRUE AND EVEN CONDITION.
MAINTENANCE SHALL INCLUDE ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS TO
PREVIOUSLY GRADED AREAS. ALL GRADED AREAS SHALL BE
THOROUGHLY TILLED TO A DEPTH OF AT LEAST FOUR (4) INCHES
BY PLOWING, DISKING, HARROWING, OR OTHER APPROVED METHODS
UNTIL THE CONDITION OF THE SOIL IS ACCEPTABLE. ON SITES WHERE
SOIL CONDITIONS ARE SUCH THAT HIGH CLAY CONTENT AND
EXCESSIVE COMPACTION CAUSE DIFFICULTY IN GETTING CLODS AND
LUMPS EFFECTIVELY PULVERIZED, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL USE THE
ROTARY TILLAGE MACHINERY UNTIL THE MIXING OF THE SOIL IS
ACCEPTABLE AND NO CLODS OR CLUMPS REMAIN LARGER THAN
1 112 INCHES IN DIAMETER. A FIRM AND COMPACT SEED BED IS
REQUIRED AND AFTER BEING GRADED, THE SEED BED SHALL BE
LIGHTLY COMPACTED WITH A LAND ROLLER, SUCH AS A
CULTIPACKER, BEFORE AND AFTER SEEDING. LIMESTONE SHALL BE
DOLOMITIC AGRICULTURE GROUND LIMESTONE CONTAINING NOT LESS
THAN 10 PERCENT MAGNESIUM OXIDE. LIME SHALL BE UNIFORMLY
APPLIED AT THE RATE OF 2 TONS PER ACRE. FERTILIZER SHALL
BE UNIFORMLY APPLIED AT A RATE OF 500 POUNDS PER ACRE OF
10 -20 -20 ANALYSIS. THE FERTILIZER SHALL BE INCORPORATED
INTO THE UPPER THREE OR FOUR INCHES OF PREPARED SEED BED
JUST PRIOR TO THE LAST TILLAGE OPERATION, BUT IN NO CASE
SHALL IT BE APPLIED MORE THAN THREE DAYS PRIOR TO SEEDING.
FERTILIZER SHALL BE USED IMMEDIATELY AFTER DELIVERY OR
STORED IN A MANNER THAT WILL NOT PERMIT lT TO HARDEN OR
