HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004/09/07 RESOLUTION - 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROTARYHarnett C 0 U N T Y NORTH CA RESOLUTION 100th Anniversary of Rotary w harnett.urg Whereas, Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world; and Whereas, Rotary's service and dedication as an organization is reflected in the service and commitment demonstrated by the four clubs located in Harnett County; and Whereas, the Dunn, Lillington, Dunn - Erwin, and Angier Clubs have throughout their existence served our community through their support of organizations such as Boy and Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Polio Plus, and the Boys and Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw; and Whereas, this service is also reflected in each club's commitment to education through scholarship programs, essay contests, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards; and Whereas, Rotary has a long and distinguished history of commitment to our County which is apparent when noting the year of each club's charter: Dunn (1924), Lillington (1937), Dunn -Erwin (1991), and Angier (1993). Now, Therefore Be It Resolved that the Harnett County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate and commend Rotary International on the one hundredth anniversary of its founding, February 23, 2005, and does hereby extend its thanks to the Rotarians of our County for their dedication and service to our community. The February 23, 2005, will be the 100'h anniversary of Rotary. We would like a resolution by November, when we plan a countywide celebration of the anniversary. The resolution should specify all the Rotary Clubs and indicate the ongoing contributions of Rotary to the citizens of Harnett County. There will need to be a copy of the resolution for presentation to each club at the time of our local celebration. Some highlights that might be mentioned in the resolution are Rotary support of: The Polio Plus Campaign for eradication of polio around the world The Boy Scouts The Boys & Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw Habitat for Humanity Literacy in Harnett County Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Harnett Teacher of the Year School essay contests College scholarships for Harnett County high school graduates Food drives Thanks, Ronnie Faulkner
