Harnett County's Sewer Ordinance requires all subdivisions to connect to sewer if the subject  development is located within the reqired distance of an existing sewer line. The distance rule is calculated by multiplying 100 feet times the number of lots (up to a maximum of 50 lots). Therefore, if more than 50 lots are planned for the development, then if the subdivision is Page 1 of 2 PUBLIC UTILITIES STAFF REPORT located within 5,000 feet of the county sewer system then it must be connected to the county's sewer system. Harnett County has a 12" sewer outfall line that has been extended up to the right-of-way of Lemuel Black Road (SR 1125) near the entrance of the Forest Oaks subdivision. The distance from the nearest manhole to the subject property should be indicated on the preliminary plat plan in order to verify if this requirement will apply to the proposed subdivision. LONG RANGE: Please visit www.harnett.org/utilities for more information on the approval process.  The utility plans for the proposed water and sewer utilities that will serve this development  should be submitted to HCDPU in accordance with the established approval process.
