041505w HARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Special Meeting (work session) April 15, 2005 The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, April 15, 2005, in the Human Resources Conference Room, County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street, Lillington, North Carolina. Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman Dan B. Andrews Walt Titchener Tim McNeill Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager Wm. A. (Tony) Wilder, Assistant County Manager Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board Charles Barefoot, Emergency Medical Services Director Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. and called on Mr. Emory. Mr. Emory led a discussion on the following items: 1. Mr. Emory and Rodney Tart, Public Utilities Director, met with Jim Roberts, Campbell University to discuss water and sewer services for the University. 2. Angier Rescue Building has been appraised. 3. Work Force Development Program 4. Mr. Emory and Mr. Barefoot discussed proposals received to provide transport ambulance service since First Health will not renew its contract with the County. The Board discussed the pros and cons of the County providing the service. 5. Mr. Emory and Mr. Wilder noted that county departments are considering using Nextel cellular phone service as an option for phone service. This would replace truck mounted phones and would cut the use of some radios and pagers. 6. Mr. Emory reported that he and Tommy McNeill, interested citizen, toured the Johnston County Courthouse and jail at Mr. McNeill’s request. 7. Update on the hospital issue. 8. Dedication ceremony for the naming of Deputy John Strickland Highway will be held Monday, April 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Creek Senior Center.
