Minutes of Board Retreat
January 18-19, 2008
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session for the purpose of a
retreat on Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, 2008, at the Grand Sheraton New Bern,
New Bern,North Carolina.

Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Friday,January 18, 2008
Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and offered the invocation.
Mr. Emory provided an overview of the day's agenda.
The county manager provided an overview of the upcoming fiscal year along with
updates regarding the budget and revaluation.
Board of Education representatives were present to discuss long-term as well as current
expense needs of the school system.
The county manager reviewed upcoming issues being faced by county depaitalents.
Some of the issues discussed included: •
- Western Harnett Library
- Hunting with dogs
- Recycling
- One Stop voting sites
- Section 8 Housing
- Transition planning for various departments
Health care issues impacting the county were discussed.
