Re: LVL sizing
Mr. Nepstad:
Jenkins Consulting Engineers performed a site visit on April 12,2018 to the subject location.
There is a 10' section of an existing 8" CMU wall that is to be removed. This letter is a
recommendation of how to accomplish the removal of that wall.
There is a porch roof that is supported by this section of the wall, and a double 11 7/8" x 1 V/
LVL will need to be installed. JCE recommends using a Simpson Strong-Tie Masonry Beam
Hanger(Model No. MBHU3.56/9.25KT) on each end of the LVLs. Please see the attached
submittal and follow all manufacturers'instructions.
It should be noted that the blocks that the brackets are Installed to are to be solid filled with
grout or concrete(see attached submittal for installation instructions).
All existing 2x6 ceiling joists that support the porch roof shall be installed on the LVLs using
Simpson U26 2x6 Face Mount Joist Hanger—G90 Galvanized (see attached product guide). •
JCE uses the generally accepted practices and principles of the profession. JCE expresses its
opinion based on visual observation of the current condition of the structure as It relates to the
condition as it was originally constructed. If any other conditions other than those assumed by
this report are discovered,the recommendations of this report will no longer be valid until the
conditions are reviewed and changes verified in Writing.
