Thank you for submitting plans for the Church. The plans have been reviewed by a
qualified code enforcement official for compliance with the North Carolina Fire
Prevention code and all other fire protection regulations. The following are items that
will need to be addressed before a final inspection of this project can be completed. The
items are listed and described below.
• 906.1 Fire Extinguishers
o Fire extinguishers shall be placed in approved locations and may be field
verified on final inspection. The fire extinguishers provided shall have a
minimum rating of 2A 10 B: C.
o Fire extinguisher shall be installed not to exceed 75' distance of travel.
• 1006.1/1006.2 Emergency Illumination
o The means of egress shall be illuminated including the exit discharge.
o Emergency illumination is required to meet minimum foot candle
illumination.
• 1011 Exit Signs
o Exit signs shall be installed at all required exits. Exit signs shall meet all
provisions of chapter 10.
• 506.1 Knox Box
o Keys shall be provided for fire department access. The key(s) may be
placed in the existing Knox box on the main building.

• 1004.3 Posting of occupant load.
o Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy shall have the
occupant load of the room or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the
main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. Posted signs
shall be of an approved legible permanent design and shall be maintained
by the owner or authorized agent.
• An occupant load certificate will be provided by the Fire Marshal's
Office.
• 605.3.1 Labeling.
o Doors into electrical control panel rooms shall be marked with a plainly
visible and legible sign stating ELECTRICAL ROOM or similar approved
wording. The disconnecting means for each service, feeder or branch
circuit originating on a switchboard or panelboard shall be legibly and
durably marked to indicate its purpose unless such purpose is clearly
evident. Doors into electrical control panel rooms shall be marked with a

• 509.1 Control room identification.
o All rooms containing controls for air conditioning equipment,
sprinkler risers and valves, or other fire detection, suppression, or
control elements shall by physically identified in terms of use (i.e.,
FACP Room, Electrical Room, Riser Room)
• 907.4.1 Duct Smoke detectors.
o Smoke detectors installed in ducts shall be listed for the air velocity,
temperature and humidity present in the duct. Duct smoke detectors shall
be connected to the building's fire alarm.
• 105.7.5 Fire alarm construction permits.
o A construction permit is required for the fire alarm installation. Submit
complete shop drawings consistent with the architectural design
documents and specifications. Shop drawings shall include detail as
described in Section 907.1.2 of the NC State Fire Code. Contractor must
obtain the construction permit for the fire alarm system before
commencement of any work.
