To Whom It May Concern,
Thank you for submitting the plans for the new admissions building. The plans have
been carefully reviewed by a qualified code enforcement official to examine for
compliance with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code and all other fire protection
regulatory documents. There are some items that were found during the plan review
process that need to be addressed before a final inspection of the new facility can be
given. These items are outlined and described below.
• 506.1 Knox Box
o A Knox Box is required to be installed on the building. Please see the link
below to order Knox box. Paper order form available upon request.

• 503.2.3 Fire Apparatus Access Road Surface.
o Fire department access roads shall be designed and maintained to
support the imposed loads of fire apparatus and shall be surfaced to
provide all-weather driving capabilities.
• 503.3 Markings.
o Where required by the fire code official approved signs or other
approved markings that include the words NO PARKING — FIRE LANE shall
be provided for fire apparatus access roads to identify such roads or
prohibit the obstruction thereof.
• 505.1 Address Numbers
o The physical address shall be installed on the building so that it is visible
from the approach side, minimum size of 6 inch.
o The numbers shall be of contrasting colors.

• 906.1 Fire Extinguishers required.
o A minimum 2A1OBC classification of fire extinguisher is required on each
floor and located so that the maximum travel distance to reach an
extinguisher does not exceed 75ft.
o Fire Extinguishers shall be located in approved cabinets along corridors
and hallways.
o Also, a minimum 408C classification fire extinguisher is required inside
the elevator equipment room.
o All fire extinguishers shall be mounted not higher than 5ft. above the
finished floor and in accordance with NFPA 10.
• 907.1.2 Fire Alarm System Shop Drawings
o Shop drawings from the licensed installing contractor shall be submitted
prior to work beginning. Provide manufacture cut-sheets on all devices
and equipment, battery calculations, voltage drop, and all other relative
requirements of 907.1.2
o A rough in inspection is required.
o A final acceptance test is required to be witnessed by a fire marshal
(100%).
• 901.6.1 Sprinkler System Shop Drawings
o Sprinkler system shop drawings shall be submitted by the installing
contractor prior to work beginning. Provide manufacture cut-sheets on
all devices and equipment, current water flow test results by engineer or
Licensed Fire Sprinkler Contractor.
o A rough in inspection is required.
o A final acceptance test is required to be witnessed by a fire marshal.
• 913.1 Fire Pump
o A construction permit is required for the installation of the complete fire
pump, submit design sheets, details and manufacture installation
information on the complete system at time of permit application and
before commencement of any work.
o The fire pump design and installation shall be in Accordance with NFPA
20 and Section 913 of the NC State Fire prevention Code.
o Acceptance/performance test is required to be witness by a fire marshal.
• 912.2 Fire Department Connection Location
o The location of the fire department connections shall be approved by the
fire chief. Consult with fire chief to ensure location is acceptable for fire
ground operations.
o Approved signs for fire department connection will be required at time of
final inspection.

• 1006 Illumination emergency power.
o In the event of power supply failure, an emergency electrical system shall
automatically illuminate corridors, exit enclosures in buildings required to
have two or more exits. (Stair 1 &Stair 2)
• 703.5 Identification
o Walls and partitions required to have protected openings shall be
permanently identified with signs or stencils. (Example "2- hour Fire
Barrier Protect All Openings")
• Comments
o A final fire inspection is required.
o Schedule all fire inspections through the Fire Marshal's Office.
