The plans have been carefully reviewed by a qualified code enforcement official to examine for full compliance with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code and all other fire protection regulatory documents. There are some items that were found during the plan review process that need to be addressed before a final inspection of the new facility can be given. These items are outlined and described below. • 906.1 Fire Extinguishers o Fire extinguishers shall be placed in the store in such a manner so that placement of the extinguishers does not exceed a 50 foot travel distance. o The fire extinguishers provided shall have a minimum rating of 2A 5B:C and shall not be installed higher than 5 feet above the finished floor o A Class K extinguisher shall also be placed in the kitchen. • 505.1 Physical Address o The physical address of the building shall be posted in a conspicuous place so that it can be seen on approach from the road, access road, and/or parking lot. o The numbers used to make up the physical address shall be at least 5 inches in height. This includes the lead in fire line for the riser. • 907.1.1 Fire Alarm Construction Documents o A full set of shop drawings matching the engineer drawings shall be submitted to the Fire Marshal's Office for approval. Any deviations from the engineer's drawing must be submitted with approval of the design professional. o Specifications for all devices including listing shall be submitted for approval and permit issuance. o Access shall be provided to each detector for periodic inspection, maintenance, and testing. • 703.1 Maintenance of Fire Assemblies o The required fire- resistance rating of fire- resistance -rated construction (including walls, fire stops, shaft enclosures, partitions and floors) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings, and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire. Openings through fire - resistance -rated assemblies shall be protected by self - closing or automatic - closing doors of approved construction meeting the fire protection requirements for the assembly o Future penetrations to be sealed with some type of removable fire stop. • 506.1 Knox Box o A secure key box shall be installed on the new building that houses all keys to all the doors within the building in which the fire department would need access to in the event of an emergency. o A Knox Box will need to be installed on ALL buildings within the complex o Knox Box ID stickers shall be placed on all exterior doors in which entry to the building may be gained. o The box shall be mounted not to exceed 48 — 60 inches in height. 2 tor-7, Harnett mo 1 COUNTY /` Emergency Stemmed Department N Of; www:harnatt.org o The basic model for the buildings should be at least a selection from the 3200 Series listed on the order form. • Fixed Fire Suppression o Plans shall be submitted for the fixed fire suppression system installed in the Type 1 hood in the deli. After reviewing the plans, the fire marshal's office will issue a permit for construction to begin on the hood system. o If a fire alarm system is going to be installed, the fixed fire suppression system shall be interconnected. • 1008.1.3.3 Horizontal Sliding Doors o Horizontal sliding doors permitted to be a component of a means of egress shall comply with all of the following criteria: • The doors shall be power operated and shall be capable of being operated manually in the event of power failure. • The doors shall be openable by a simple method from both sides without special knowledge or effort. • The force required to operate the door shall not exceed 30 pouds to set the door in motion and 15 pounds to close the door or open it to the minimum required width. • The door shall be openable with a force not to exceed 15 pounds when a force of 250 pounds is applied perpendicular to the door adjacent to the operating device. • The door assembly shall have an integrated standby power supply. • The door assembly shall be electrically supervised. • The door shall open to the minimum required width within 10 seconds after activation of the operating device. • Emergency Lighting o In addition the emergency lighting submitted on the plans, additional lighting shall be installed in the vestibule to provide adequate coverage in case of power outage. • Shop Upflts o Any future upfit to the attached shops will be required to submit plans to the Harnett County Fire Marshal's Office and the Harnett County Building Inspector for permit issuance. • Refrigeration o The type and quanity of refrigerant needs to be determined as it relates to the following code requirements in the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code. o NCFPC 606.5: Refrigeration systems having a refrigerant circuit containing more than 220 pounds of Group Al or 30 pounds of any other 3 li M g re Harnett - '# COUNTY �� i, a ' £margrncy Sw Department tt —.slag ,-�►�, www•.harmatt.rrrg group shall be accessible to the fire department at all times. The alarm shall be actuated at a value not greater than the corresponding TLV -TWA values shown in the International Mechanical Code for the refrigerant classification. These items are outlined and described below. • 901.2.1 State of Compliance. o Before requesting final approval of the installation, where required by the fire code official, the installing contactor shall furnish a written statement to the fire code official that the subject fire protection system has been installed in accordance with the manufacture's specifications and the appropriate installation standard. Any deviations from the design standards shall be noted and copies of the approvals for such deviations shall be attached to the written statement. o See attached documentation format required for antifreeze certification. • 901.4 Installation. o Fire protection systems shall be maintained in accordance with the original installation standards for that system. Alterations to fire protection systems shall be done in accordance with applicable standards. o NFPA 13 7.5.3.3 (2002). Where the connection between the antifreeze solution and the wet pipe system incorporates a backflow prevention device, a listed expansion chamber of appropriate size and precharged air pressure shall be provided to compensate for thermal expansion of the antifreeze solution. Riser detail on the plans doesn't indicate expansion chamber or fill -cup, clarify or redesign to meet appropriate standard. This is only applicable with the installation of a backflow prevention device. • 903.3.6 Hose threads. o Fire hose threads and fittings used in connection with automatic sprinkler systems shall be prescribed by the fire code official. Approved National Standard Thread (NST) is required. • 903.4 Sprinkler system monitoring and alarms. o All valves controlling the water supply for automatic sprinkler systems and water -flow switches on all sprinkler systems shall be electrically supervised according to the NC State Fire Code. • 903.4.1 Signals. o Alarm, supervisory and trouble signals shall be distinctly different and shall be automatically transmitted to an approved central station, remote supervising station or proprietary supervising station as defined in NFPA 72 or, when approved by the code official, shall sound an audible signal at a constantly attended location • 903.4.2 Alarms. o Approved audible devices shall be connected to every automatic sprinkler system. Such sprinkler water -flow alarm devices shall be activated by water flow equivalent to the flow of a single sprinkler of the smallest orifice size installed in the system. Alarm devices shall be provided on the exterior of the building in an approved location. The code official shall be notified before any required acceptance testing o All piping and attached appurtenances subjected to system working pressure shall be hydrostatically tested at 200 psi or 50 psi in excess of the system working pressure, whichever is greater, and shall maintain that pressure without loss for 2 hours. This test is required to be witnessed by a representative from the Harnett County Fire Marshal's Office. o A contractor's material and test certificate shall be furnished by the trained representative of Central Piedmont Fire Protection before final approval. o Unless the whole system to be put under pressure then a valve shall be installed to only test the new piping.
