PO Box 97365 Raleigh, NC 27624 I Dear Mr. Webb: Per your request, I have reviewed the 2009 edition of the North Carolina Residential Code to address the foundation anchor requirements and possible alternatives for retrofitting additional anchor mechanisms. Analysis revealed that for wind zones consistent with those of Harnett County, A" anchor bolts are to be installed @ 6' -0" o.c. and within 1'-0" from the end of each plate. When retrofitting anchor bolts to achieve these minimum requirements, the contractor may install 'h" threaded rods embedded a minimum of seven inches into a masonry foundation and secured with epoxy, or if the 9 foundation is a poured concrete wall or monoslab foundation, the contractor may install 'A" x 6" expansion sleeve anchors such as "Red Heads ".
