Dear Mr. Webb:
Per your request, I have reviewed the 2009 edition of the North Carolina
Residential Code to address the foundation anchor requirements and possible
alternatives for retrofitting additional anchor mechanisms.
Analysis revealed that for wind zones consistent with those of Harnett County,
A" anchor bolts are to be installed @ 6' -0" o.c. and within 1'-0" from the end of
each plate. When retrofitting anchor bolts to achieve these minimum
requirements, the contractor may install 'h" threaded rods embedded a minimum
of seven inches into a masonry foundation and secured with epoxy, or if the 9
foundation is a poured concrete wall or monoslab foundation, the contractor
may install 'A" x 6" expansion sleeve anchors such as "Red Heads ".

The "Benson Manor" plan being constructed on lot 4 Chandler's Ridge
subdivision in Harnett County, North Carolina was reviewed to address the
drilled 24" LVL in the garage.
Upon reviewing the plan, the picture of the issue, and the beam calculations,
analysis revealed the (2) 1 3/4" x 24" LVL with the notch at the top thru the
corner edge of only one ply is adequate as is and does not require modification.
