Ordered that all road commissioners in County meet here with County Commissioners Monday, July 8th,1918, for the purpose of investigating highway through county. Ordered that the cans on hand be sold for cash at 5 and 6 cents. Moved.and seconded that County Attorney employ Mr. E.F.Young and get, land sales in shape for collection for taxes of real estate lands sales and do it at once. J.G.Layton was appointed road commissioner of Grove Township in place of Henry Turling- ton resigned. Moved and.seconded -that County Demonstrator go to see Mr..Lloyd Wade and see the amount o soda that has been delivered'to different ones and - so*met,/Zc�a� -,� THE FOLLOWING PETITION W.,S FILED: TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT.COUNTY: We, the undersigned qualified votersof Duke Township, respectfully petition your Honorable Board to make the road from theend of 13th Street in the Town of Duke leading to the bridge of Cape Fear River a publicroad. This road is a part of the main road leading from Dunn to Lillington through puke. The road is through the, lands of the Erwin Cotton Mills Company excipt a few hubdred ards which is through the property of H.V.Moulton. _,Uia road is about a mile long and connects the good Toad in Stewart's Creek Township andthe Duke Township road district. It is agreeable to the Erwin.Cotton Mille Company that this road be made a public road. (See Petition filed in this office.) WHEREAS, There has been filed with the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County a petition signed by more than l/5 of the qualified voters of Duke Township, Harnett County, asking for an election upon the question of issuing $30,000.00 of bonds of said township under the pro- visions of Chapter 427. of the Public -Local Laws of 1913 entitled "An aetto improve the roads in Harnett County and for the issuing r of bonds by the County and the sevea.l Townships therein ", and the said petition having been duly eanvassedand ordered recorded; Be it therefore resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County in regular session, and the following members being present:J.D.Barnes, J.C.Byrd, D.P.Ray and R.T.Johnson, that an election be, and thesame is hereby called to be held in Duke Township on August 3rd,1918, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said township the question of issuing $30,000.00 of road bonds as provided for in the act.herein referred to; And it is further ordered that the said election be advertised for thirty days in the Harnett Reporter, a paper published in Harnett County, from this date.. Be it further resolved that anew registration of the voters desiring to participate in said election shall be had, and for that purpose we do hereby appoint and elect L.E.Staneil, Registrar for said election and we do hereby appoint and elect 0.R.Simpson and E.W.Smith,Poll Holders for zaid election, and the said registrar and poll holders are hereby required and directed to hold said special election in accordance with Chapterc427 of the Public -Local Laws of North Carolina of the General Assembly of 1913. Be it resolved further that at the said election those of the qualified voters favoring the issuingof said bonds ahall vote a ballot havingupon it the words "For Bond Issue" , and the qualified voters opposing the said bonds shall vote a ballot having upon it the words "Against Bond Issue ". It is further resolved by the Board that the said registrar and poll holders shall malts returns of the said election as re q uired by law.
