D.P. Ray, R.T. Johnson.
It was ordered that Archie Matthews be allowed $5.00 per month instead of $12.00
quarter.

It was ordered that the county home be rented to J.D. Lanier for one -third of
and county to furnish everything and do all the labor and still feed the paupers.
Ordered that $400.00 be appropriated.to Home Demonstration work, for 1920. -
Ordered that sheriff not add one per cent until first of Feb, on taxes.

The following resolution pfd by J:C. Byrd and seoonded by R.T. Johnson
unanimously adopted and ordered spread ppon the minutes, to -wit;
First. That we have learned with sorrow of the breavement of our fellow
D.P. Ray, in the death of his beloved companion, Mrs. Ray, since our last meeting.
Second. That we extend to Mr. Ray and the members of his family our heartf
sympathy in this their great loss; and $Ja#Caftile this sad separation is a mystery to all
understanding, we commend to them the consolation of our common christian faith and the '&
that a wise Providence orders all things well, and holds out to us_the hopes of a reunion
that happy realm where sickness and sorrow cannot enter.
Third. That as representatives of the people of the county we wish to re_o°�
this public acknowledgment of the splendid character of this good woman. has contributed td
uplift of the people of her community.

Petition of Board of Education requesting County
Commissioners to call school bond election.
Whereas, a petition signed by more than one- fourth of the resident free holders of Coats
School District, has been presented to this Board, asking for an election for the purpose
of submitting to the qualified voters of said School Distriaw the question of issuing
$10,000 in bonds to aid in the construction of a achcolhouse at Coats for said District, and
Whereas, the petition is ir the due form and properly signed as required by Chapter 55 of
the public laws of 191.5, end amendments thereto,
NOW TFERYFORE, we, the Board j. Lducation for Harnett County, Forth Carolina, do hereby
petition the Board of County Commissioners of said County to order an election for the
urpoee of submitting to the qualified voters of said Pistrict the question of issuing
10,000 in bonds, to run for a period of 20 years and to bear interest at the rate of 6%
per annum, payable semi- annually, said bonds ;,c be dated February 1st, 19201,and'for the
purpose of providing for a tax levy to provide for'the payment of the interest on•said
bonds and a sinking fund for tfie principal thereof, said tax not to exceed the limit of
50jr,on the Hundred Dollars.of property and 90p''ori the Poll, as provided in JVhe Act herein-
after mentioned. Said bonds to be issued by authority of and in accordance with the prc-
vision of Chirpier 55 of the Public Laws of North Carolina, Session of 1915, and amendments
thereto.

Notice is hereby•given that a special election jhas been called by the County Com-
missioners of Harnett County to be held at Cbaty: North Carolina, on the 17th day fo
February 1920, to submit to the qualified voters of Coats Scl�ocl. District the question of
issuing :10, 000 in bonds to build a schoolhouse for said District at Coats, N.C. Said
election to be held under the provisions of and by authority of Chapter 55 of the Public
Laws of ?forth Carolina; Session of 1915,.and amendments thereto..
A new registration is ordered and J.F. Parr%ih is appointed registrar•for said
election. All qualified voters of said Distri ct a.re required to register in order to
be eligible to vote in said election. The registration books will be open in the hands
of said registrar at Coats, 17.0..form the 17th day'of January, to the 7th•i:.; f February,
1920, incl;t.ive, at the Coats Drug Company's store, at Coats,'N.C.,and on Saturdays during

Ordered that this Board hereby agrees that the State Highway Commis -si -on construct,
according to the State and Federal -Laws and the regulavions oftthe Secret•sry of Agriculture
of the United States and. the regulations: of the State Highway Commission,• 'the road be-
ginning at Wake County Line between Fuquay Springs and Chalybeate Springs vi& Lillington
and passing, into Cumberland'County._at Linden Steel Bridee; it distance of -approximately
28 miles..
This is the same road on which the Foard on July 31, 1919 „ regyevted the State
Hie,hway Commission to .grant Aid..
This Board will make available, on demand, for the use of the State Highway
Commission in constructing this raad, such funds as may be'required not to exceed Twenty -
Five per cent of the coat of the road as shown by the estimate Prepared for the project
agreement, or such modifications of the project agreemenL, as may be made letwoon the
