Moved and seconded-that the Chairman of this board be authorized to borrow the sum of $16000.00
for the purpose of paying the deficit of the Board of Education to Dunn School.
Moved and seconded that Parker Brothers bill of $26.55 be passed, subject to approval of D. P.

Moved and seconded that John I. McLean and wife, (Col) be reinstated on pauper list- fi5.00 per
month including 15.00 for month of January.

Mr. J. B. Lanier truned in his resignation as Supt. of Convict Camp and same was accepted, to
take effect this date.

ed Supt of Convict Camp, to succeed Mr. J. B. Lanier, Salary $75.00

RESOLUTION:
Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett county:
That one note be executed in the sum of $15,000.00 dated Feb. 1'2, 1924 maturing Feb. 12,
1925, and Bearing interest at 5f% interest paKable at maturity. Both interest and principal to
Bearer at Chatham & Phoenix National Bank of New sork "ity in anticipation of taxes hereafter to `
be collected, and that said note be sold or hypothecated, by the Commissioners of harnett County,
and the proceeds turned into the School fund of said County.
Be it further resolved: That the full faith and credit of harnett County be pledged to the
punctual payment of the principal and the interest of said note at maturity.
Resolution calling for special term of Criminal Court to be held the 3rd week in March be filed win
with the minutes.

TO HIS HONOR, THOMAS Y. PITTKAN, JUDGE PRESIDING:
We, the Urand Bury for the January Term b924 of Harneyy %eriorn0ourt, reppectfully make the
following report to your Honor,
1. We have diligently inquired into all bills brought before us and have made returns accordingly.
22-We have inspected -.11 the offices in the Courthouse and find them in fair condition. -We re-
commend to the County Commissioners that they provide covering for the floors and vaults in the
offices of*the Clerk and Register of Deeds in accordance with the Report of the Grand Jury for
the September Term 1923, and covering the the floor of the Superintendant of Education Office, an&
all needed chairs for said several offices, and else where where they are required.
3. We have inspected the Jail and find same in fair condition and kept as wee as possible under
conditions'existing as they are now with the blockade Stills stored in it. the prisoners in the
Jail stated they were comfortable and have enough food and warm clothing:'
4. We have inspected the County 11ome and find it in the same condition as when the Grand Jury of
the September Term 1923 made its _eport. We recommend that the repair work suggested in the said
epoit be done at once.
E. de have inspected the Convict Camp and find same kept in fair condition, as well as possible
under the conditions under which the convicts are now worked. We find the food suf.icient in
quality and quanity and clothing enough for warmth. The only complaint made by the convicts
was the use of harsh and profane language used by some of the bosses. We recommend that the
prisoners be handled with more care and that the guards be more watchful towards preventing
escappes.
