Byrd, J.S.Barker, and A.A.Cameron present. County Attorney H.C.Strickland also. It is ordered that Daniel McArtan of Anderson Creek Township be admitted as an inmate to the County Home. It is ordered that the property of B.Fleishman and Sons on East Broad Street in town of Dunn, valued at $7,000.00 be reduced in tax valuation to $6,300.00 on account of fire which destroyed building'on Jan. 26, 1938, allowing $700.00 for the remaining walls of building. It is ordered that T.Clyde Marks of Johnsonville Township be relieved of poll tax for the year 1937 and 1938 on account of physical disability. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Wesley Coats, East Broad St. Dunn, N.C. It is ordered' that Joe Barnes be re- admitted to the County Home. It is ordered that the report of the County Forest Warden, T.J.Turlington, be accepted and placed on file. The Board ordered the County Attorney to take a non -suit as to the suit for 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1932 taxes on two lots.. in Dunn, N.C. described as " one .lot on W.Divine Street" and "one lot on Pearsall Street ", listed to Mrs.Eliza Pope and /fMrr L.E.& Mattie Pope,`upon payment to the County of the sum of $428.03 during August 1938 and,proportinate part of any accrued court costs. - The members of the Board of Education appeared before the Board of Commissioners and presented the supplementary budget of the Department for the fiscal year 1938 -1939. The Board then entered the following order: IT IS ORDERED by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that W•D.Harriigton, County Tax Collector, advertise a sale of the property. of those tax payers in the county who have not paid their 1937 taxes, and that said advertisements be apportioned between the Dunn Dispatch and the Harnett County News, and that the noties of sale be printed for four consecutive weeks, once a week, immediately preceding the sale date, and that on September 5, 1938, said sale be held at the courthouse door in Lillington, N.C. all in accordance with law. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that between now and September 5, 1938, the Tax Collector make effort to collect all taxes from those who list no real estate in the County. The following road petition was presented to the Board, approved, and ordered filed until a meeting of State Highway and Public Works Commission with the Board: (1) work on the public road leading from Broadway and Swann Station. 575 The bids of auditors to audit the offices of the Clerk of the Court and County Accountant from June 30, 1935 to December 5, 1938, and to audit claim of the Clerk of the Superior Court against the County for fees alleged to be due on 1757 tax suits were considered. It was ordered that the Chairman execute and Auditor approve standard contract with Harry C.Northrop, C.P.A. to do the auditing in accordance with his bid -- namely: $20.00 per day and expenses, the auditing of the Clerk's office not to exceed a maximum of $415.00; the auditing of the Accountant's office not ordinarily to exceed $585.00; and the auditing of the claim for fees on the tax suits not to exceed $150.00; all subject to the approval of the Local Government Commission. J.B.Ennis, G.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd, J.S.Barker, and A.A.Cameron. The following resolution was offered by Mr.G.T.Noel and seconded by MW.L.R.Byrd: "RESolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County: (11 That for properly maintaining a six months' school term in District No. 7 Hector s Creek Township, Lafayette School, white race, Harnett County, as required by Article IX, Section 3, of the Constitution of the state of North Carolina, it is necessary that certain improvements be made herein of the following ebataoters Assist in paying for construction of additional class rooms for vocational work, high school library, 2 additional class rooms and 2 toilets. (2) That in order to provide said improvements it is necessary that the sum of FIFTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($5500.00) be obtained by borrowing the same, to be used by the County Board of !education of Harnett County for said purpose. That the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County does hereby approve of and authorize the application for, and procurement of a loan for said pur'poasefrom the Special Building Funds of the state of North Carolina, established and operated under Chapter 147, Public Laws 1921, Chapter 136, Public Laws 1923, Chapter 201, Public Laws 1925, Chapter 199, Public Laws 1927 Chapter 115, Publio Laws 1937 and said Board does hereby authorize and direct that all necessary steps be taken to procure said loan under the terms of said statutes and the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education governing the making of loans from said funds, and the Chairman and Clerk to this Board are hereby authorized, empowered and directed fro and on behalf of this Board to Join with the County Board of Education of Harnett County in making the neoessary application therefor, and to take such action under this resolution and under said statutes, rules and regulations as may be necessary for said pvnrpese. (2) That in order to provide said improvements it is necessary that the sum of FIFTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($5500.00) be obtained by borrowing the same, to be used by the County Board of Mutation of Harnett County for said purpose. (3) That the Board of County Commissioners. of Harnett County does hereby approve of and authorize the application for, and procurement of, a loan for said purpose from the Special Building Funds of the State of North Carolina, established and .operated under ,Chapter 147, Public Laws 1921, Chapter 136, Public law '1923, Chapter 201, Public. (2) That in order to ovide said improvements it is necessary that the sum of FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS (4,000.00) be obtained by borrowing the same to be used by the County Board of Education of sarnett County for said purpose. (3) That the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County does hereby approve of and authorize the application for, and procurement of, a loan for said purpose from the Special Building Funds of the State of North Carolina, established and operated under Chapter 147, Public laws 1921, Chapter 136, Public Laws 1923, Chapter 201, Public Laws 1925, Chapter 199, Public Laws 1927 and Chapter 115, Public Laws 1937, and said Board does hereby authorize and direct that all necessary steps be taken to procure said loan under the terms of said statutes and the rules and regulations of the State Board or Mducation governing the making of loans from said funds, and the Chairman and Clerk to this Board are hereby authorized, empowered and directed for and on behalf of this Board to join with the County Board of Education of Barnett County in making the necessary application therefor, and to take such action under this resolution and under Said statutes, rules and regulations as may be necessary for said purpose.
