02011937450 February 1, 1937 The Board of County Oommissioners -met in regular session Monday Feb. 1, 1937 at 10:00 A.M. with all members present: J.B.Ennis, Geo.T.Noel, J.S.Barker A.A:Cameron, and L.R.Byrd. Also H.C.Strickland, county attorney. It is ordered that C.B.Barefoot doing business under the firm name of Acme Cleaning Co. be refunded`47500 asover - payment of Schedule B.license tax to the-County for the two years ending May 31, 1937 and that license be issued to him for year ending May 31, 1937 already covered into the Treasury of the County a that Tax Collector be given credit by the Auditor for $12.50 for saz ax s. The Board adopted'resoluticn allowing William Jackson Grady to list 35 acres Pipkin land in Liliingto n Township not' listed- since 1924 at $5.00 per acrex upon recommendation of County Auditor and County Attorney. This being waste land. Mr.Grady agreeing-to-settle ail-taxes- at once: Supt. B.P.Gentry furnished the Board an estimate of $1650.00 additional to the-$7300.00 allowed in the-budget for repairs to schools. The Board voted to allow V1000.00 additional now. Further needs if any to be brought before the Board by Supt. Gentry. A committee composed of J.B.Ennis, Geo.T.Noel and J;S.McLean was appointed to investigate-the-valuation-of lots described in Commissioner's Deed by - J.C;Smith and J.C.Clifford to Geo.S.Pope, L.A.Tart and Arthur F.Pope, in Averasboro Township. it is ordered that John D.Gossett of Lillington Township be relieved of deg tax-for the-year-1936. ($2.00) It is ordered that Mrs. E.L.Chaunault of Neills Creek Township be relieved of dog tax for year 1936. It is ordered that A.B.Hayes of Stewarts Creek .Township be relieved of -poll tax-for year 1936: It is ordered-that-the-judgment entered in that certain case of County of Barnett -vs- Marion Cameron for - foreclosure -of tax lien on lands in Johnsonville Township be- cancelled of record and that tax -receipts covering taxes for years 1929, to 1936 both inclusive, be delivered to tax payer, upon payment to the County of $102.11; provided said payment shall be made before February 5,1937. It is ordered that d.Eddie Williams -be refunded- $11.63 because of excessive valuation -of farm-in Black River Township for 1936 taxes, the house thereon having been burned prior to listing time and the valuation not having been the - retofore reduced accordingly. It is ordered that N.M.Shelly of Duke Township be relieved of dog tax for year 1936. It is Superior conflict - It is Roads. ordered that an effort be made to have a Criminal Term of Harnett court to be held in March each year providing that there shall be no with other terffis of court elsewhere in the - District: • ordered that beer license be granted to 1.0--.Lee at T'urlington's cross It is ordered that all persons convicted of crime by any court in the County or committed to County Home shall, before departing the County jail or before being transported to the county Home or Prison Camp be first examined by the County Health Officer of the County. It is further ordered that the County Health Officer be notified of this order. The following road petitions were approved by the Board and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commissions (1) A road in Duke Twp. leaving Highway No. 60 east of Wilson H.Lucast home and comes out into a well maintained road at the home of Joe Lee. This road is a part of RFD 1 from Erwin Post Office. Also used by the Erwin School bus, leads to Antioch Church and St.Matthews Church. It is 3/4 mile inUngth. (2) Raod in Anderson Creek Twp. from Anderson Creek School runs easterly to John Powell's place, then South to Elmore's Bridge, connecting with Harrington Road, a distance of about 4 miles. BE IT RESOLVED that Board of Commissioners of Barnett County, do hereby endorse and recommend to the State Highway and Public Works Commission the construction of State Higway leading from U.S.Highway No. 15A at a point within or near Fuquay Springs, in Wake County, N.C. via the village of Duncan, in Harnett County, N.C. to a point at Avents Ferry; thence to Sanford in Lee County, which road will traverse approximately 8 miles in Barnett 'County. 451 Bond of Edwin Harrington, Register of Deeds.
