01041937443 January 4, 1937 The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session Monday, Jan. 4, 1937 at 10:30 A.M. with these members present: J.B.Ennis, Geo.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd, A.A.Cameron and J.S.Barker. Also County Attorney, H.C.Strickland, was present. It is ordered that W.D.Page of Black River Township be granted free peddler's license for the year 1937. It is ordered that W.D.Page of Black River Township be relieved of poll tax for year 1937. It is ordered that license be granted to Mrs. Melissa Butler to operate three pool tables at the North -South Filling Station on N.C.Highway No. 21, near Dunn. It is ordered that report of the Tax Collector be approved and filed. It is ordered that report of the Health Department be filed. It is ordered that Miss Lillie Davis, Welfare Officer, be authorized to have made the necessary number of mattresses as will be needed in the County Home and County Jail. This work to be done under W.P.A. program at cost of $2.50 each to the County. It is ordered that the Purchasing Agent purchase necessary equipment for the Tax Collector's office. It is ordered that the Purchasing Agent purchase three rolls of wire for the County farm. It is ordered that the matter of re- indexing the real estate records in the Register of Deeds office be deferred until first Monday in February, 1937. The Board appointed a committee composed of J.S.MoLean and J.S.Barker to investigate the revaluation of property of J.E.Smith in Buckhorn Township. It is ordered that D.G.Darroch of Anderson Creek Township be relieved of poll tax for the year 1936. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Rucker Henry Olive in Barbecue Township. It is ordered that Geo.W.Edwards, colored, of Goldsboro, N.C. be granted free peddler's license for the year 1937 on account of being a disabled World War Veteran. It is ordered that L.L.Hight of Scotland Neck, N.C. be granted free peddler's license for the year 1937 on account ofbeing a disabled Worn War Veteran. It is ordered that petitions for the following described roads be approved and forwarded to the State Highway & Public Works Commission: (1) that road leading from Lillington to Coats. (2) beginning at J.I.Holder's mail box runs by Gordon Holder's house to Little River Mills; thence to Johnsonville Road at Katie Cameron's being about three miles in length. It is ordered that the County subscribe to the services of the Institute of Government for a period of six months and in the event that the Board is Convinced by the and of said six months period that the service is worth $95.00 per year, then same will be paid. And in the event the Board does not consider the service worth $95.00, then the said six months service will be free at the expense of said Institute of Government. It appearing to the Board that J.W.MeArtan who was elected as Codatable for Averasboro Township has failed to qualify as such officer by subscribing proper oaths and filing a bond as required by law: It is ordered that the said office of Constable in said Averasboro Township be declared vacant and that A.N.Hudson be and he is hereby appointed as Constable to fill the vacancy caused by failure of J.W.MoArtan to quality as Constable in Averasboro. Township, and he shall enter upon the duties after he shall have qualified as provided by law. It is ordered that report of Register of Deeds be approved and filed. To the Honorable Board of Commissioners of Harnett County: I respectfully request that you authorize the Tax Oolleotor of Harnett County to issue license to operate three pool tables in my station known as North -South Billing Station No. 1 on N.C.Highway No. 21. I represent to you respectfully that I have complied with the requirements regarding publication of notice and the posting of the notice at the courthouse door.
