08061934224 6th. August 6th. 1934 The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with the following members present: J.B. Ennis, Chairman,H.M. O'Quinn, J.S. Barker, J.D• Byrd and E.L. Crooke. I.R.Williams, County Attorney, was also present. It is ordered that petition for road in Grove Township leading from Johnston County line about 600 feet to the Coats - Benaon Road be approved and referred to the State Highway and Public Works Commission for consideration. It is ordered. that J.A. Speagle be allowed to peddle in Harnett County without charge on account of physical disability due to World War service. It is ordered that report of L.M. Chaffin, C.S.C. be accepted and filed and cheeks in the sum of $71.40 and 23.75 be turned over to the County Aud &tor for distribution. It is ordered that W.A. Holder be relieved of the payment of poll tax for the years 1933 and 1934 on account of physical disability. It is ordered that valuation of lot of T.L. Gerald heirs on West Broad Street in Dunn be reduced gram $4950.00 to 44000.00. It is ordered that valuation of 2 lots of Mrs. L.A. Tart on. S. Magnolia Ave. be reduced from 41240.00 to 41100.00. It is ordered that 3142 acres of land of G.A. Jackson in Averashoro Township be reduced from 41595.00 to 41450.00. It is ordered that 8 ages of E.B. "Beasley in Averasboro Township be reduced from $1120.00 to X900.00, It is ordered that report of Dr. A.W. Peede be accepted and filed. It is ordered that report of Geo. L. Cannady, Tax gollector, be accepted and filed. It is ordered that report of Geo. L. Cannady, Collector of Privilege Tax, be accepted and filed. It is ordered that the Board defray the expense of Mr. J.B. Ennis, 0hairman of the Board, in attending the Convention of the Association of County Commissioners to be held in Ashville, N.C. on August 14,15 and 16th. It is ordered that a Committee composed of J.B. Ennis, Chm., J.S. Mclean,Auditor and W.E. Salmon,Sheriff be appointed to investigate the possibility of enlarging the County Jail. It is ordered that the sum of 4750.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated and ordered Lobe ,planed in 1934 -35 budget for a mouth health program to be condueteL by State Board of Health which sum to be .supplemented by wtate Board of Health and from Federi Relief Funds, total expenditure to be 42400.00. It is ordered that cost taxed by N.C. Supreme Court in case 22471, Judgment Docket 24 -13, entitled mCounty of Harnett vs Reardon be paid to the parties entitled thereto. It is ordered that petition formroad in Grove and 1Qeills Creek Township, leading from Coats to Pules Creek and connecting Route No.221 at Goats with 960 at Bales Creek, be approved and-forwarded to the State Highway and Millie Works Uommis- sion for Consideration. RESOLUTION: WHEREAS, Mrs. Alton Stewart, widow of Alton Stewart, the mother of four children, all being minors, was served with execution papers to eject her fxam and her children from a house In Dunn, said house being owned by Mr. or Mrs. W.O. Johnson; AND .AND WHEREAS, the said owners of said house demanded that the officer having -said execution for service. this widow and her family just prior to Christmas Dey: AND 'AREAS, the said matter was reported to County Welfare Officer, who instructed I.R.Williams, County Attorney to take such steps as necessary to prevent said widow and her children fro; being thrown into the Streets during Christmas week; and whereas I.R.Williams and Stewart Turlington signed a superaedias bond staying exeotthion; AND WHEREAS, the said widow has vacated said premises after the Feb. Term, 1934; AND WHEREAS the said widow is insolvent. AND WHEREAS, there is due on the said rent the sum of 457.84, exclusive of costs; NOW TFTF,REFORE be it resolved that the said sum of $57.84 be appropriated for the payment of seed balance due on said rent, exclusive of aka Court costs and that said sum be paid to the owners of said building. 225 RESOLUTTION: WHEREAS Mre.G.R. Warren is the owner of a certain lot in the City of Dunn, N.C. being 70 by 140 feet, and whereas Mrs. Warren did file with the Board of Commissioners a complaint as to the valuation of Reid lot in apt time; AND WHEREAS, the Board of oommissionera /flev u commended a valuation of 41750.00 for this lot; NOW THEREFORE, it is ordered by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that the valuation of the above mentioned lot be fixed at 41750.00 for the years 1932, 1933 and 1934; IT IS FoRTHER ORDERED, that the said Mrs. G.R. Warren be refunded any taxes paid in excess of the above valuation for the years mentioned above. RESOLUTION: It is ordered that former order of this Board passed duly 2nd.1924 in Re: Mettle L. Gainey Real 1atate Valuation" be rescinded and the following resolution be adopted in lieu thereof: Mattie Gainey having appeared before the Board of Oommisaioners to asoertain the outcome of her appeal from 1931 assessment and it having been found as a fact that said appeal has never been acted upon and the following members of the Town of Dunn Board of %4ommisaionera, J.H. Ballance and G.T.Noel and N.B. Lee, Tax Col- lector of Dunn, having recommended that a valuation of 41250.00 be placed on said property for the years 1931, 1932, 1933 and 1934, which recommendation is concurred in by the Committee appointed by the Board of Commissioners, it is ordered that the valuation of 41250.00 be placed upon said lot purchased and owned by Mettle L. Gainey in Averasboro Township, Harnett County for the years 1951, 1932 and 1933 and 1934 and the Auditor is instructed to make the necessary corrections. Mr. I.R. Williams having presented to the Board a report of his findings as a result of a request of the Board that he go to Washington,D.C. to ascertain the possibility of obtaining Hinds for the ereotion of school buildings in Harnett County, it is ordered that the same be filed with the minutes and that the sum of 413.35 be paid Mr. Williams for the expense of this trip.
