JUNE 4, 1934.
The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with the following
members present: J.B.Ennis, Chairman; E.L.Cooke; J.S.Barker; J.D.Byrd and
H. " °.0'Quinn. Also I.R.Williams, County Attorney.
It is ordered that a committee composed of E.L.Cooke,&I.R.Williams be requested
to investigate the valuation of the lot listed in the name of Mrs. Geo.R.Warren
in Averasboro Township, to act with Mr. N.B.Lee, Tax - Collector of the Town of Dunn.
Itis ordered that Glenn Brantley be relieved of the payment of poll tax for
the years 1931 and 1932 as he was absent from the County during these years.
It is ordered that report of Geo. L.Cannday, Tax Collector, be accepted and
filed.
It is ordered that report of L.M.Chaffin, C.S.C. be accepted and filed and
checks in the sum of 3182.40 and 3257.90 be delivered to the County Auditor for
distribution.
It is ordered that the report of the Grand Jury be accepted an4,filed, & recorded
It is ordered that Miss Kate Hester be permitted to enter the County Home and
cost of transportation to be paid by the County.
It is ordered that J.J.Turnage be permitted to purchase license to sell beer
in East Erwin, N.C.
The Board of Commissioners having found from the statement of H.W.Prinee,
Surveyor, that there is an error in the listing of the lands of Gladys Warren
Jernigan for the years 1931, 1932, 1933 and 1934 in that she is charged with 20
acres more of woods land than she owns;
IT IS THEREFORE ordered that said Gladys Warren Jernigan be granted relief as
follows on her lands in Averasboro Township, for the years 1931 on a valuation of
3240.00; for the years 1932 and 1933 on a valuation of 3180.00 for each of said
years, and that the tax list for 1934 be corrected so as to speak the truth as to
the acreage of woods land listed.
RESOLUTION:
North Carolina -- Harnett County:
To the Hon. Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County, the petition of
Marvin Wade respectfully shows the following:
1. That he is the purchaser, under a foreclosure proceedings a tract of land
containing 622 acres, formerly owned either by C.L.Wilson or J.W.Wilson, the legal
title being in C.L.Wilson.
2. That this petitoner bid off said lands at the price of 3400.00 plus taxes,
which taxes, including apparent drainage taxes amount to approximately $700.00.
3. That this petitioner is informed reliably, and upon such information
respectfully shows to this Honorable Board that the said 622 acres have not been
appraised for at least severalyears.
4. That the names of owners of lands adjoining the said 62* acres are as
follows: Mrs. L.B.Tew, 135 acres, valued at 335.55 per acre; J.D.Davis, 112 acres,
valued at 323.80 an acre; Joe Jackson Estate 19 acres, valued at 324.52 per acre;
R.S.Kelly, 288 acres, valued at 318.84 an acre.
5. That the said 622 acres are situated in Stewarts Creek Township, in that
section known as the Beaver Dam, and there are no buildings on the said 622 acres,
but the same is now valued on the tax books, entirely out of line with adjoining
land owners at the sum of 33,000.00, or nearly 350.00 per acre.
6. That this petitioner feels that no attention has been paid to the proper
appraisal of this tract of land, either by the former owner of the appriasers for
Stewarts Creek Township, and that there has been no valid re- assessments of said
lands.
WHEREFORE, your petitioner prays that the said 622 acres be valued as directed
by the laws of North Carolina, and that a proper valuation be placed upon said
tract of 62* acres, in order that this petitioner may °ay the just taxes due on
said lands.

The petition above set forth having been heard, and the Board having found as
a fact that no re4valuation was made in 1931 of the lands described in the petition;
IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that a valuation of 31000.00 be placed upon said lands
for the years 1931, 1932 and 1933 and that the tax list be corrected to show a
net valuation for these three years.

NOTICE TO 1930 and 1931.DELINQUENT TAX PAYERS
By Section 3 of Chapter,560 Laws of 1933, It is mandatory on the Board of
County Commissioners of this County that all suits to foreclose certificates
evidencing sales .of land for the non payment of taxes for the years 1930_ and
1931 be brought at any time not later than October 1, 1934. • .
As there are many certificates of sales now owned by Harnett County for these
years, tt will be necessary for these suits begin to be started not later than
July 1st, in order that all may be started by October 1st, 1934.
It is hoped by the Board of Commissi -oners that all delinquent tax payers for
these years will pay the delinquent taxes before July 1st.

REPORT OF GRAND JURY:
NORTH CAROLINA -- Harnett County: Superior Court, May Term 1934.
To His Honor, Judge R.Hunt Parker, Judge Presiding:
We, the Grand Jury of the May Term 1934 of Harnett County Superior Court,
respectfully make the following report:
1. We have carefully considered and passed upon all bills sent us by the
Solicitor and have made returns upon the same.
2. We went in a body to the County Home and made a carefuly examination of the
same. We found the home in excellent condition and the inmates properly cared for.
3. We inspected the State Highway Prison Camp and found it in excellent
condition and that the prisoners are well taken care of. Some new buildings have
recently been erected by the State.
4. We inspected the Jail and found the same in first class condition.
5. We visited the County Garage and found the mechanics busy reconditioning
the school buses for the opening of school next year.
6. We found that all the Justices of the Peace have made their reports..
7. We have inspected all the offices in the Courthouse and found them in good
condition, and 1bebmmend that a telephone be installed in the Clerk's office.
8. We found that George Washington has not renewed his bond withintthree years
as Guardian.
9. We found that the following Guardians have failed to file an annual report
for the past year: Walter Mason, Ella- A.Neighbors, Albert Pope and J.O.Tew.
10. We desire to make the following recommendations:
That the porch on the west side of the old County Horne be covered.
That the grave yard at the old County Home be fenced and beautified.
That the steps to the colored apartment at the new County Home be repaired.
That the front porch and steps at the Jail be repaired.
We desire to thank His Honor, Judge R.Hunt Parker, the Solicitor and the
County Officials for the assistance rendered us and the courtesies shown us
during this Term.
We especially desire to thank Mr. L.M.Chaffin, Clerk Superior Court, and
Mr. W.E.Salmon, Sheriff, for their assistance and courtesies shown us during this
Term.
