The Board of County dommissioners met in regul r session with the following
members present: J.B. Ennis, Chkirman,H.M Vauban, J.D. Byrd, J.S. Barker
and E.L. Hooke. I.R. Williams, @ounty Attorney, also present.
It is ordered that Carlyle gore of Iveraaboro Township be relieved of the pay-
ment of poll tax for the years 1932 and 1933 on account of physical disability.
It is ordered that Mrs. C.C.2urles be given a refund on a valuation of 4550.00
for 1931 and 1932. gee authority'given by order of Board in minutes of Feb. 6th.
1933.
It is ordered that C.C. Surles be refuned 42.00 dog tax as dogs were listed by
error in 1932. See minutes of Feb. 6th. 1933.
It is ordered that Minton Webb be refried poll tax paid for the year-1932 as he
is physically disabled and was ordered released by the Board at a former meeting.
It is ordered that petition for road in Upper Little diver Township leading from
the Johnsonville Road near Clark's Bridge to the Warrington road near Floyd
Parker's residence be approved and forwarded to the State Highway Commission.
It is ordered that J.B. Ennis, J.S. McLean and I.R. Williams be appointed a
Committee to audit all court cost bills rendered by the Recorder's Court of Dunn.
It is ordered that report of Dr. A.We Peelle, lounty Heaith Officer, be aeeepted
and filed.
It is ordered that report of L.M. Chaffin, C.S.C' be accepted and, ordered filed
and that checks in the sum of 4141.20 and 499.75 respectively be turned over to
the County Auditor for deposit.
It is ordered that the following report of the Grand Jury at the Sept. Term of
Harnett Superior Court be accepted and ordered recorded:

TO HIS HONOR, F.A. Daniels, Judge Presiding;
We, the Grand Jury for the First September Term, 1933 of Harnett Superior Court
do respectfully make the following report to your Honor:
1. We have carefully considered all bills sent before as by the Solicitor and
have made returns on same.
2. We have inspected the several offices in the Court House, the Jail, the
Convict Camp, the 0ounty Garage, the new iielfare Quarters, and the (county Home,
and find all t o be and to be kept in a proper manner, We desire to express our
appreciation to the County Commissioners for the remodeling and adding to of the
old Ehapter House and the converting of the same into a place for our Welfare De-
partment and -for the Red Cross and other welfare agencies.
3. We desire to make the following recommendations; and ask that they be
carried out as promptly as the finances of the bounty will admit:
That new mattresses and blankets be provided for the jail, the floors
-repaired and that the heating plant be inspected.
b. That oovering be provided for the floors of the kitchen and dining rooms
the County Home.
c. That -all the school buses now stored in the County Garage be re-condi-
tional Afore they are used - again,
e desire to thank his Honor, Judge F.A. Daniels, the Solictor and the
Co " officials for the assistance rendered and the courtesies shown as during
this term.

It is ordered that Mrs. P,T• Massengill be- released from the payment of taxes on
a valuation of 4275.00 for the year 1932 on lot on South Clinton Street on account
off loss of buildings burned by fire;
It is ordered that Mrs. P.T. Massengill be reeved- released from the payment of
taxes on a valuation of 4210.00 on lot on South Clinton Street in Dunn, N.C. on
account of loss of building by fire.
It is ordered that the valuation of the house of Roy J. Brown in £verasboro Town-
ship be fixed at 41500.00 and that the valuation of the lot be fixed at 486.00 and
that he be allowed to list same for the year 1933 at these figures.

It is ordered that the salary of the Stenograpper of the Superior Court be fixed
at $35.00 per week, plus the expenses provided by law.
It is ordered that the valuation of the 100 sores of land of H.T. Spears, known
as the Shaw or Bank land be reduced from $1500.00 to 4826.00 the original valuation
It is ordered that D.P. Cameron of Upper Little River Township be released from
the payment of $1.00 dog tax for the year 1933 as dog was listed to him through
error.
It is ordered that the Sheriff seise all slot machines in Harnett County in which
slot machines the 'jack pot" 1s composed of coins and to pause the arrest of the
operators of suoh gambling devioss; this order to take effect after October, 20,
1933. Voting for this resolution: Byrd, Barker and Ennis. Not voting: Cooks.
It is ordered that A.B. Stewart of Averasboro Township be allowed the sum of
419.00 for a brace, it having been found as a fact that Mr. Stewart is a pauper
and in need of medical treatment. Shenk to be mailed to A.B. Stewart, Dunn, N.C.

It is ordered that H.Y. O'Quinn be appointed as a Committee - of one to act with
W.D. Herrington of the Board of Education in arranging a settlement with Paul T.
Long.
It is ordered that the Tax Collector sell land for non- payment of 1932 taxes on
first Monday in November; 1933. All zsttsa present voting for: Absent; O'Quinn.
It is ordered that report of Sao. L. Csnnaday, Tax Collector, be accepted and filed.
WHEREAS, W.E. Hall has been exempted from payment oa paddlers' license by his home
County, Cumberland, on account of being a disabled World War Veteran under Seotion
121, Revenue Act of 1933; Now therefore, be it resolved that said W.E. Hall be
exempted for 1933 fssar;:payment of Peddlers tax in Harnett County.
It is ordered that the salary of the Tax Collector for the tames for year 1933 be
fixed at the sum of $3000.00, the minimum amount allowed by Seotion Six,Ohapter 42,
Public -Local Laws 1924, Extra Session as amended by Seotion 606, Public -Local Laws
1925.
It is further ordered that there be allowed said Tax Oolleotor as provided by
Section 6, Ghpater 42, Pulbio -Local Laws 1924, Extra Session, the sum of 41500.00
in addition to the above, the same to be used by the Tat Collector in payment of
clerical help, stationery, stamps, bonds premiums, traveling expenses, and all
other expenses incident to said office, 4100.00 of which is to be used exclusively
for newspaper advertising prior to any publications of land sale, for purpose of
informing the public about the rounds of the 'i'ax Collector and discounts and
penalties.
It is further ordered that for eaoh certificate of sale of land for the non-
payment of taxes, in which the County of the Harnett is the purchaser that said
Tax Collector be allowed the sum of 41.20, in addition to the above.
It is further ordered that the said Tax Collector be allowed all fees for
levies, garntthments and sales for non - payment of taxes, at which sales the County
is not the purchaser.
Voting in favor of said resolution: Barker, Byrd, Cooke and Ennis, Chm.
O'Quinn being absent.
The appointment of a Tax - Collector for the collection of taxes for the year
1933 was had, such action having been postponed until this date.
Geo. L.Cannady was the only applicant and he was unanimously appointed.
Commissioners Barker, Byrd, ebtatin and Hnnis, Chm. voting.
Commissioner O'Quinn being absent.
It was ordered that Geo. L.Cannady post a bond in sum of 425,000.00, with
sureties approved by law for faithful performance of his duties as Tax Collector
and the Assistant Tax Collector bond is fixed at 45,000.00
WHEREAS, the board of Commissioners was advised that the general Assembly
had peasaddduring the 1933 6ession a bill allowing the Commissioners of Barnett
County to levy the Special Tax authorized by Chapter 441 of Public Items of 1931;
And whereas, since the publication of the 1933 Public Local La *s it has been
ascertained definitely that such bill failed to passrthe Senate of the general
Assembly of 1933;
And whereas, the Board of Commissioners, under the advice, that such bill
had become the law, levied a special tax for the purposes enumerated in said
Chapter 441, Public Laws 1931;
Now, Therefore, be it ordered as follows:
1. That the said special levy for the purposes set forth in Chapter 441,
Public Laws 1931, for the year 1933, be and the same is hereby declared null and
of no effeot.
2. That the Tax Lists and Scroll books ettliiarnett County for the year 1933
