It was ordered that the reports of L.M.Chaffin, C.S.C. be accepted and filed. It was ordered that the report of Dr. A.W,Peede, Health Officer, be accepted and filed. It was ordered that $20.00 be paid to A.A.Johnson for the burial of Mark Bathes RESOLVED: That the resolution of November 5, 1931, providing for the release of James Kellam and Henry Kellam and William Kellam in Johnsonville Township therein described upon payment of $10.00 on or before January 1, 1932, be corrected and that the time for payment be extended until February 1, 1932, upon payment of the sum of $2.00 in addition to the sum of $10.00 or toal payment of $12.00. And further the Auditor of Harnett County is authorized and directed to execute the proper reoeipt in release and discharge of said taxes provided in said resolution of Nov. 5, 1932, upon reoiipt of the sum of $12.00 on or before Feb. 1, 1932. Approved: J.W.Halford, Chairman E.L.Cooke , member H.M.O'Quinn, member It was ordered that the petition for a road leading from a point at the Old Alonzo Ennis old home place on the Angier & Dunn Road, to a point where the old pathway enters the public road fram bile's Creek to Angier about 1* miles long be approved and forwarded to the State Highway Commission. It was ordered that the appraisers be requested to make a new appraisal of the property of J.R.Young and A.F.Young Estate in Lillington and Averasboro Townships and that the petition be filed. TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: Your petitioner reppeotfully showeth to your body the following facts with reference to his taxes and prays that you adjust same, in Lillington Township. He is the owner of 185 acres of land. In 1926 it was listed as 967 acres and valued at $2486.00 and the taxes were $514.60; In 1927 it was listed as 485 acres and valued at $8425.00 and the taxes were $195.24; In 1928 it was listed as 485 acres and valued at $8425.00 and the taxes were $174.40; In.1929 it was listed as 485 acres and valued at $8425.00 and the taxes were $180.30; In 1930 it was listed as 485 acres and valued at $8425.00 and the taxes were $178.59; In 1931 it was listed as 485 acres and valued at $9270,00 and the taxes were 153.88. - Total. There is about 60 acres of cleared land, about 20 acres of pastures and about 100 acres of cut over woods land, one tenant house, 4 tobacco barns, stable and one pack house on it. The way other land of like quality and character is valued in the same aMghborhood #5000.00 would have been full valuation for the years up to and including 1930 and $4500,00 for 1931. This is not asking for revaluation but it simply asking for a refund and correction an error made by your tax assessors in charging me with something I didn't own: I also have 455 acres of land in Stewarts Creek Township, that I bought from John McArtan during high prices,and boom times and paid $10,00 per acre for it, all cutover woods, no cleared land at all valued eter since I have owned at just what I paid for until the year 1931 and then without:nthtice of any kind it was raised to $5010.00. I have never realized a penny from said land in any way, and it only good to hold the earth together, I have paid the county about $1000.00 on this tract since owning it. Et appearing to the County Commissioners of Harnett County: that thwre was listed for taxation in Harnett County, Stewarts -Creek Township, for the year 1927 and 1928 a tract of land containing 186 acres in the name of J.L. and I.W.Smith; that the said J.L. and I.W.Smith have since divided said tract of land, the said I1W.Smith receiving 90 acres in said division; that W.W.Ailen and Son are now the owners of said 90 acre tract of land; That W,W.Allen and Son have paid on`April 18,.1930 the sum of $58.10 on the taxes due by J.L. and I.W.Smith,. for the year 1928, on said 90 acre tract of land; That taxes for the year 1927 .have not been paid on the 186 acre tract of land listed in the name of J.L. and I.W.Smith; that the individual taxes of I.w :Smith for the year 1927 were paid by W.W.Allen and Son, which tax included his personal property and other lands in which the said W.W.Allen& Son had no interest; that the said W.W. Allen & Son now desire to pay the balance due on the 1927 tax due on said 90 acre tract of land, which was listed in the name of J.L. and I.W.Smith, and herewith tender the sum of x,35.00 in full payment of the balance due the County of Harnett on said 90 acre tract of land for the year 1927. It is therefore ordered that said 90 acre tract of land now owned by W.W :Allen & Son be and the same is hereby freed and discharged from any liability for taxes for the years 1927 and 1928; that the County Auditor is hereby directed to credit the tax receipts for the years 1927 and 1928 with full payment of all county taxes due against said 90 acre tract of land. BE IT RESOLVED: That the County Auditor prepare,within the thirty days, a list of the 1929 dertificates of sale of land and deliver a copy of the same to the County Attorney, who shall inspect the records and inform the Auditor of the names of all lienholders of record, who hold any liens on the lands described in the said certificates of sale; that the Auditor notify by mail all delinquent tax payers for the year 1929, and also the- owners of liens on said lands described in said certificates that suits to foreclose said certificates will be started by April 22, 1932. _ The purpose of this order is to save not only the County of Harnett but all persons interested in said lands as much costs as possible.` It was ordered that the report of the Grand Jury be filed. RESOLVED: That the Board of Commissioners as soon as the collection of taxes will permit, carry out the several recommendations made by the Grand Jury of January Term 1932 in so far as buying certain equipment. Be it further resolved, that since 15 members of the Grand Jury for January Term 1932 have not paid their taxes for 1931 that they pay said taxes at once in order that the Board of Commissioners may carry out in part the recommendations so made: TO BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY: I hereby request that you deposit the checks which I have tendered to yo3Z in my reports, said checks to be used by you without any prejudice to any rights you may have becuase of errors in the reports or other legal techinicalities. In other words, all rights of the County are be reserved. I ask that this be done without delay. This the 1st day of February, 1932 J.O. RESOLVED: That the Board of Commissioners express its thanks for a contri- bution of 525.00 from the Red Cross, through Henderson Steele, Chairman, for the relief of the poor to be disbursed through the Welfare Officer. It was ordered that County Attorney be empowered to take such legal stops as necessary to determine the validity of the $70,000. Bond Issue dated Sept. 1, 1932 The total cost not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00). It was ordered that the letter of Bray Brothers Company of January 15,1932 and enclosures be filed in todays minutes. It was ordered that the error in valuation of the property of J.R.Davis in Upper Little River Township be corrected and the value placed at $4150.00 RESOLVED: That the following salaries be effective from March -.1, 1932: I.R.Williams, County Attorney, 125.00 per month; H.C.Strickland, Solicitor, $75,00 per month; J.S.MOLSan, Auditor, $160.00 per month; and H.S.Freeman, Assistant Auditor, $115.00 per month. Be It Further Resolved, that after March 1, 1932, the allowance to Sheriff's Office for expenses be $100.00 per month in lieu of $125.00, previously allowed. Voting in favor: All five members.
