01051942379 January 5,1942 The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Jan. 5,1942, at 10 :00 A M. with J.B.Ennis, Chairman, Ferd D.Jackson,L.R.Byrd,A.A.Cameron and R.L.Pate present, Also present was H.C.Strickland,County Attorney and Inez Harrington Clerk to the Board. It is ordered that the order appropriating $300.00 for the use Guard in Dunn,passed November 3,1941, as shown by minute Book #7, and the same hereby is amended as follows: strike out the world and that the State appropriate the sum of of the Home page 364, be $600.00 In consideration of Nannie Matthews, of Grove Township, having maintained Grady Lewis Matthews, a dependent child and county charge of 12 years of age, at an expense of more than $400; the lien of taxes allegedly due County of Harnett on one lot in Grove Township, listed to A.J.Matthews (now Nannie Matthews), for the year 1941 and all pr &or years be released. The report of Inez Harrington,Register of Deeds for the month of December was approved and ordered filed. The report of Howard Godwin,C.S.C., for the month of December was approved and ordered filed. The report of Lola O'Quinn,Delinquent Tax Collector, for the month of December was approved and ordered filed. The report of W.D.Harrington,Tax Collector, for the month of December was approved and ordered filed. The following road petition was approved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway & Public Works Commission (1) to add a,road of about 41 miles in length known as the "Atkins Road ", begins at Boonie Andrews place on the Bunnlevel Road and enters the other Bunnlevel Road near Reeves Bridge,in Stewart's Creek township. It is ordered that policy No 93048242 in the amount of $5000.00 on Boiler and Machinery in Court House and Jail and Agriculture Building was approved and ordered filed with Clerk to Board. It is ordered that L.B.McLean,insolvent tax collector, be refunded the amount of $10. the amount paid by him on bond to County. . It is ordered that all enlisted men in service be released of poll tax for all years or part of years for the duration of war. WHEREAS, the death of Miss Lillie Davis, lately Harnett County Welfare Officer, is a distinct loss to the people of Harnett County: Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that they hereby express their regret because of the death of Miss Davis, and their sympathy to the members of her family. Be it further resolved that,in the opinion of the Board by Commissioners,it will be extremely difficult to fill the vacancy created by theadeath of Miss Davis by appointment of one who may be reasonably expected to measure up to her high character and the many admirable qualities which made for her distinct duccess as Harnett County Welfare Officer. Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be transmitted to the family of Miss Davis, that a copy be furnished the Harnett County press, and that a copy be spread upon the minutes of the Board of Commissioners. The lot referred to is at the Southeast corner of Johnson and Depot Streets in Town of Angier, and is No.99 of map by A.W.Gregory, recorded in Map Book No. 2, page 71, formerly listed to. Joseph McLeod, Lillie Matthews, J.B.Matthews, and not lawfully listed by anyone since 1932. 381 WHEREAS, in the case entitled County of Harnett -Vs- D.W. Cox, being #A65, Judgement was entered on the 13th day of April,1931, which judgement is docketed in Judgement Docket #22, page #65" and under said judgement sale of the lands involved therein was made by- J.O.West,Commissioner, and at said sale the County of Barnett became the last and highest bidder and said sale was confirmed and deed executed to the County by the Commissioner, but said deed never having been recorded, and WHEREAS all taxes on the lands involved in said suit have been paid by the owner, and said judgment should be cancelled, IT I3 THEREFORE ORDERED that said judgment be cancelled, that said deed be not recorded and that J.B.Ennis,Chairman of this Board be and he is hereby authorized to cancel said judgment of record. EMERGENCY WARTIME RESOLUTION Attention needed by Board of County Commissioners Meeting Monday January 5th 1942 Whereas, we are now engaged in a world war requiring all out aid; whereas, North Carolina has,since the first world war, provided an annual Farm Census (county inventory) Survey, which provides the basis national defense information so important under the existing emergency; and, whereas, this Board desires to fully cooperate in such essential services, Be it resolved that: The Harnett County Commissioners in regular sessions assmbled, hereby agree to cooperate fully for the duration of the war, with the established agricultural agencies designated in the state act concerned, toward securing complete township farm census surveys, and that each commissioner will personally cooperate in seeing that this is accomplished. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the County Tax Supervisor, each township Tax Lister, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, local newspapers, and a copy be recorded in our minutes.
