At a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County,
North Carolina, held in its office in the Town of Lillingtcn, on the 7th. day
of October, 1940, with the following members presents: J.B.Ennis, A.A.Cameron,
L.R.Byrd, F.D.Jackson and R.L.Pate, the following resolution was duly introduced,
adopted and passed:
THAT WHEREAS, the said Board of County Commissioners in recognition of the
courteous, efficient and satisfactory service rendered to Harnett County by
Honorable D.B.McCrary, member of the State Highway Commission, ::. and his
Division Engineer, Mr. L.E.Whitfield, in the performance of their official duties,
desire to record their approval of the excellent manner in which they have
carried on the highway work in Harnett County, and to give our endorsement to
the present law authorizing and creating highwa : - districts in the State and the
personnel of the organization as now constituted in the S3lthHighway Division, AND
WHEREAS, it is the unanimous opinion of the said Board that the present
personnel of the organization of said district is indispensable to the
continuation of a system which provides for our people convenient and constant
contact with the people of the County by which all concerned may have, and in
our opinion do have, a greater opportunity to know of the policy and method of
the State Highway Commission, from which understanding comes greater appreciation
and cooperation from the people of the State, and
WHEREAS, the people of Harnett County are interested in the retention of the
services which it now enjoys of Honorable D.B.McCrary, Commissioner, and
L.E.Whitfield, Division Engineer
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett
County, North Carolina, by a unanimous vote of the members of said Board,
earnestly requests and recommends to Honorable J. M. Broughton, Governor nominate
of North Carolina, the retention by the State of the services ofionorable
D. B. McCrary, Commissioner, and L. E. Whitfield, Division Engineer. That their
reappointment to the positions which they occupy will, in our opinion, meet with
universal approval of the people of Harnett County, and contribute much to the
future well -being of the State's highway program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of these resolutions be sent to Honorable
J. M. Broughton, Honorable D. B. McCrary, and L. E. Whitfield, and a copy
thereBf spread &pon the minutes of the Board.
Those voting in favor of said resolution: J.B. Ennis, A.A. Cameron, L. R.
Byrd, F.D. Jackson and R.L. Pate. Those voting against: None.
