04011940159 April 1, 1940 The Board of Commissioners net in regular session Monday, April 1, 1940. All members of the Board were present: Chairman J.B.$nnis, and Commissioners L.R.Byrd, Ferd.'D.Jackson, R.L.Pate, Angus A.Cameron; Also County Attorney H.C.Strickland. It is ordered that the 1938 and 1939 taxes on one lot on Edgerton and Wilmington Streets in Dunn, N.C., valued at $1575.00 and listed to J.R.Summerlin, be released, as taxes on above named lot have been paid by North Carolina Mortgage Service Corporation, who also listed thiss property. And be it also ordered, that 1937 taxes in the amount of $23.45, be refunded to John R.Summerlin for the above reasons. It is ordered that the cotton allottment check No. 462,139, in the amount of X21.60, be applied on the purchase price of 622 acres of James Thomas (colored) lands in Upper Little River Township, foreclosed by County of Harnett under SD No.2115 -A -975, and that the tobacco allottment check also be applied on the purchase price. It is also ordered that James Thomas (colored), the former owner, be given an extension of time in which to finish the payments on above contract, the ti'-:e to be extended to November 15th. 1940, aid the 1940 allottment checks to be applied on the purchase price. It is ordered that $41.00 court costs and $2.60 Land Sale cost be released from the 1928 tax receipt on 16 acres of real estate listed in the name of Mrs.L.E.Kelly in Buckhorn Township. The County Attorney is hereby authorized to consent to a judgment to be entered by the Judge of the Superior Court of Harnett County, in the case of "County of Harnett -vs- L.C.Stephens et als. ", it being No. 4081 on the Civil Issue Docket, which judgment shall provide that the County recover in said action the taxes levied and assessed against the subject property for the years 1928, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, and 1940, together with interest, penalties and costs. It is ordered that the following cotton allottment checks on farms foreclosed by County of Harnett for taxes, be applied as rent on the farms for the year 1939: SD No. 2087 -A -969 45 acres T.B.Womack land in U.L.R. The monthly report of Inez Barrington, Register of -0eeds, was approved and ordered filed. The monthly report of W.E.Hyland, Acting Auditor, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Grand Jury for the March term 1940 in the Superior Court was read and ordered filed. The monthly report of W.D.Harrington, Tax Collector, was read and ordered filed. BE IT RESOLVED that the 2 acres of property acquired by the County of Harnett under tax foreclosure Judgment No. 2136 -A1155 be sold to ---- Mrs.H.C.Jernigan for the total sum of $40.00 eash, with this offer. This being the same land formerly owned by Mrs.H.C.Jernigan and consisting of 2 acres. The Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute Deed to her and the Clerk will attest same. 160 BE IT RESOLVED that the property acquired by the County of Harnett at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 1881 -A -905, be sold to Ira Cox - - -- for the total sum of $100.19 on the following terms and conditions: $60.00 cash with this offer; and $20.00 on November 1,-1940; and $20.19 and interest on May 1, 1941; and the Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute Deed to Ira Cox and the Clerk will attest same. BE IT RESOLVED that the property, formerly listed to B.J.Bell Estate, and acquired by the County of Harnett and the Town of Dunn at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 1686 -A -1085, be sold to George Jannette - -- for the sum of $1800.00, on the following terms ard.conditions: x$100.00 cash with this offer; and $300.00 on or before June 1, 1940; and the remaining .1400.00 at the rate of $25.00 per month, due and payable on the first day of each month, for one lot 70 x 200 feet on the South side of East Broad Street in the Town of Dunn, N.C., as per description given on back of this contract which description is to be stated in deed from Town of Dunn and the County of Harnett. The purchaser agrees to continue paying 112.50 per month rent for the property uhtil the above mentioned $300.00 due on June 1, 1940, shall have been fully paid. The Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to George Jannette and the Clerk will attest same. It is ordered that John D.Dixon of Grove Township be refunded 1)1.00 :tax for the year 1939, on account of error in listing a female dog to him at $2.00. It is ordered that Ransom A.Lucas of Duke Township, be relieved of X2.00 dog tax for the year 1939, on account of error in listing. It is ordered that the salary of Court Stenographer of this District be raised to $45.00 per week. It is ordered that $10.00 pan month be allowed to Ben F.Miller of Averasboro Township, on account of physicial disability. The check to be given to Miss Lillie Davis, Supt. of Welfare, for Ben F.Miller. It is ordered that Bradley B.Hodges of Duke Township, be granted free pedlerts license for the year 1940, on account of physicial disability. It is ordered that Mrs.Lela Upchurch be refunded tax on $605.00 tax valuation of personal property listed to B.B.Upchurch Estate in Black River Township for the year 1939, on account of error in listing. It is ordered that the land formerly listed to Estelle Reid (colored) in Barbecue Township, and acquired by County under tax foreclosure Judgment No. SD- 3455 -A -1358, and sold to Sidney G.Thomas, be surveyed and the County pay -one -half of the expense of survey. The County to hold the $100.00 check given by Sidney G.Thomas as part payment on property until the survey is made. The County Tax Collector presented the 1939 list of insolvents, and the Board, upon considering the matter, returned the list to the collector with instructions to proceed with the collections. It is ordered that Mrs.Bettie Dollar, of Stewartts,.,Creek Township, be allowed a reduction of $100.00 per year for years 1937, 1938, and 1939. It being value of four acres after - listed in year 1939. Commissioner Pate introduced the following Resolution: BE IT RESOLVED that the sale of real estate owned by tax payers and subject to taxation for the year 1939, by the County of Harnett, taxes levied and assessed against which for said year, shall be delinquent and unpaid, shall after advertisement as provided by law, be sold by the Tax Collector on the first Monday in June, 1940, and the Collector *I11 be governed accordingly.
