10041948443 OCTOBER 1948 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday October 4, 1948 at 10: A M with all members present, also County Attorney, Clerk to Board and the Auditor. The monthly report of Howard Godwin, C 3 C was approved and ordered filed. The monthly report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed. The third quarters y report of marriage license was approved and ordered filed. The report of W D Harrington, Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed. The report of L B McLean, County Service Officer was approved and ordered filed.. Beer license were issued to Mary A Ferrell Shawtown Lillington N C at the place of business of Percy and Mary Ferrell. Beer license were issued to Chester Perry 611 N Magnolia St Dunn,N.C. at a small store at his residence. Beer license were issued to David Frazier, Manchester at Alex McLauchlin's place of business. The Board ordered that the sum of $1020. heretofore approved as a part of the County Agent's Dept budget be and the same is hereby allowed and accordingly appropriated and indicated in the budget estimate of that Dept. The Board granted to Robert L Long, Erwin,N.C. a release of poll taxes for the years 1946 and 1948 on account of physical disability. The Board granted that Odell Hasty, Erwin N.C., be relieved of taxes for the year 1944 in Duke Township in the amount of ;4.38 on account of error in listing. The following road petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) That certain road in Neill's Creek Tap beginning at a oint 3/10 miles off highway 421 near Cedar Grove Colored school and runs North 1/4 mile then turns and runs West 1/4 mile then turns southwest 1/2 mile passing by the tenant houses of A W Sawyer R 0 Johnsqn and Mrs Carlton Brown and coming into highway #421 near the tenant house of Mrs arlton Brown a distance of approximatelyl mile. (2) Work and pull up and clear the ditches on that certain road in Stewart's Creek Towndhip beginning at a point on H,ghway #15A near the home of A F Jones and the farm of Billy Byrd and runs westwardly to a point on the wire road a distance of 600 yards. (3) Build and construct an all weather road starting at Stewart Matthews' Serv. The Board accepted the resignation with regret and expressed their thanks for the past service of Mr. Lee.
