March 18, 1946 The Board of CountyCommissioters met in the Court House on Monday march 18, 1946 at 10:00 O'clock, sitting as a Board of Equalization and Review, for hhe first meeting of the year 1946, with all members present. The Board of Equalization and Review consists of the following members: J. B. Ennis, Angus A Cameron, R L Pate, L R Byrd, and Ferd D Jackson, Commissioners; A F Fowler and C H Thornton, -ounty Appraisers; H C Strickland, County Attorney, and Berles C Johnson, Clerk. Mrs. Lovelia Lee was granted a reduction on buildings in Averasboro Township from $2,350.00 to 02050.00. John Suggs was granted a reduction on spme of his lots in Averasboro Township from 01,725 to $1620. The Board ordered the Appraisers to investigate 800 acres of Babcock Lumber 00 land located in Anderson Creek Township and valued at $7.20 per acre to determine its right to a reduction in rate to that of cut -over timber land. The Board also ordered the Appraisers to investigate 500 acres of Babcock Lumber Co land located in Johnsonville Township and valued at 08.50 per acre to determine its right to a reduction ih rate to that of cut -over timber land. J M Canoy of Lillington Township asked for an investigation by the County Appraise as to the equalization of some of his property located in Barbecue Township. There being no further business the Board recessed until Monday March 25, 1946. Some Minor cases were brought before the Board and were explained and cleared up to the taxpayers' satisfaction, No action was taken. There being no further business, the Board recessed until Monday April 1, 1946. It was advised that two acres of land in Johnsonville Township heretofore listed to C A Hamilton for Taxation of Olivia for for year 1946 and five preceding years at valuation shown on tax abstracts and that upon payment to the 'LJounty of Harnett of said taxes, penalties, and cost, the lien of taxes against said property be dis- charged. £here being not further business the Board adjourned. The Board of Harnett "'ounty Commissioner reconvened their meeting Wednesday March 20, 1946 at the Harnett County Courthouse at 2 o'clock P M upon expiration of the recess taken March 4, 1946. Present: Chairman J B Ennis and Commissioners L R Byrd, A A Cameron, F D Jackson, and R L Pate. The Court room was well filled by citizens from all sections of the County, and after having heard many of the representative citizens present and tax payers, all of those present :oined in the request which had been made by the s 'O6 County Board of Education to the County Commissioners to cause to be held a special election for the purpose of submitting to the voters of Harnett County a question of issuing 5750,000.00 of Harnett County bonds for the purpose of financing needed school sites, school buildings, school additions and equipment, except four of those present who voted against submitting the question. On motion of Commissioner F D Jackson, seconded by Commissioner R L Pate, the Board by unanimous vote ordered that proper and needed procedure be taken to have called and held a special election for the purpose of submitting to the voters of Harnett County for their determination the question of issuing $750,000.00 Harnett County bonds for needed school sites, school buildings, school additions and equipment and instructed its attorney to proceed accordingly.
