060519447 5 June 1944: The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday June 5,1944 at D,0; o'clock A.M.with J.B.Ennis, Chm.,A.A.Cameron and Ferd D.Jackson and L.R.Byrd. Mrs. Wilma Williams Welfare Supt. appeared before the Board and presented the budget for Welfare Dept. for yrs 1944 -45 which was approved and ordered filed. Reid Ross, County Supt. of School appeared before the Board and presented the budget for yr. 1944 -45, which was approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that J.E.Jackson be appointed Real Estate Agent for Harnett County to succeed the late A.L, Newberry. Be it resolved that the 33 acres in Buckhorn Township formerly listed to J.A. Baker and acquired at tax foreclosure sale under Judg. #834 be sold to J.A. Baker for $190.87 on the following terms $50. cash and $140.87 on December 1, 1944. The Chairman of Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to J.A.Baker and the Clerk will attest same. Beer license were granted to J.Gid Johnson at Gid's Cash Store in Grove Township. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed. The report of Howard Godwin,C.S.C. was approved and ordered filed. The report of W.D.Harrington,Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed. RESOLUTION The members of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County having learned with profound regret of the death of Mrs.Florence Pate, the mother of our esteemed friend and co- worker, Robert L.Pate; Be it Resolved, that this Board adjourn its regular meeting out of respect for the memory of Mrs.Pate, to meet again on Wednesday,June 7, and that as mahy members of this ::oard as possible attend t he funeral in Erwin today; and that the deep sympathy of this Board for the bereaved family be expressed in appropriate sentiments. Be it further resolved that this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting, and a copy thereof mailed to our bereaved friend and co worker, Robert L. Pate. The Board recessed to meet Wed. June 7, at 10 :00 o'clock.
