The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday May 1,1944 with
J.B.Ennis, A.A .Cameron,L.R.Byrd, R.L.Pate,Ferd D.Jackson,present, also present were
H.C.Strickland,County Attorney, and the clerk to Board.
The report of Inez Harrington,Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed.
The report of W.D.Harrington,Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Howard Godwin,Clerk of Superior Court was approved and ordered
filed.
Beer licenses were granted to Hattie Bryant,Linden,N.C. #1 to sell Beer and
wine at Bryant's place five miles from Bunnlevel.
Beer L,censes were granted to Tom Newton,Lillington,N.C. to sell Beer and
wine at the 2 way Service Station at forks of road 15A & 210 Lillington,N.C.
It is ordered that Beer licenses be granted to A-len Glenn Whittington,Erwin,
N.0 at my place, on the Dunn and Erwin Highway 1 mile from Erwin.
Mr. Melvin Turlington appeared before Board and presented plan for repair
at County Home at a cost of ap- proximately $2125.31.The Board approved the plan for
the repair.
Walter Tucker, colored, appeared before the board, and presented a road
petition asking that a drainage pipe be laid on the road leading from Shawtown to
the Johnsonville Highway. The Board approved, and ordered that it be forwarded to
the State Highway and Public Works commission.

Whereas the United States, through the Department of Agriculture has paid to the
County certain lin lieu of taxes on that tract of land which was conveyed by G.B.
Hall and wife to the United States as shown by that deed recorded in Book 263 at page
180,
It is therefore ordered that the said -tract of land containing 243 acres, which
are described fully in that deed from LB. Hall and wife to the United States,
recorded in Book 263 at page 180, be and the same is hereby released from taxation
by the County of Harnett for the years prior to the year 1943.
