The b @epd of Commissioners met in a call session on Monday, September, 16th.,
1957, with all members present, except Commissioner Currin. The County Attorney and
Clerk t� tYoBoard were present.
Cpmmissioner Cameron, moved, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant, that tit raise
allowed the Rural Policemen in this years budget be added to the travel allowance.
Motion carried,
Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that Neill McKay
Ross be appointed as Assistant Solicitor for Harnett County Recorders Court, to
serve at the pleasure of theBoard of Commissioners, at a salary of $275.00 per
month. Motion carried.
Mr. M. B. Gardner appeared before the Board and presented the written offer of
his brother, K. L. Uardner to purchase from the county its interest in a certain
tract of land containing 35 acres formerly owned by K. L. Gardner and acquired by
Harnett County.under tax foreclosure suit, S. D. #2763;,; Judgment # A -1721. The
offer of Mr. Gardner was in.the&amountoof $311.99 and the tax collector advised the
Board that this represented all taxes, costs and penalties involved in said suit ad
the 1957 taxes on said lands.
And upon motion of Commissioner Pleasants, seconded by Commissioner Cameron,
theBoard voted unanimously to convey its .interest in said land, to the said K.L.
Gardner upon payment of said sum of S311.99 and authorized the Chairman to execute
deed, attested by the Clerk covering the countyts interest in said land upon receipt
of said sum.
The Chairman presented to the Board the written request of the District
Solicitor for a two week term of special court to try criminal cases, In this
letter it was pointed out that over two hundred cases are pending trial upon the
criminal docket of Harnett County SuperiorCourt.
After discussion, the Board by unanimous vote adopted the following resolution:
Whereas the District Solicitor has called to the attention of the board the
large number of criminal cases awaiting trial uponthe criminal docket of Harnett
County Superior Court and has stated that a. special term of two weeks should be
set for the trial of said criminal cases; and
Whereas, it is the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County
that a two week Special Criminal Term should be held in Harnett County for the
trial of -said cases;
Now, Therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners that tie Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina be andhe is hereby requested to
call a two week special term of Harnett County Superior Court for the trial of
said cases, and assign a Superior Court judge'to preside thereover.
The Board Adjourned.
