03061967MARCH 6th. 1967 The Board of Commissioners met in a regular session on Monday March 6th. 1967, with all members present also present with the Board were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. M. H. Brook, Chairman, called the meeting to order and presided. Commissioner Womble offered the invocation. Minutes of the February meetings were read and approved. The following reports were presented and approved: Clerk Superior Court Clerk Recorders Court Register of Deeds Veterans Service Officer County Electrical Inspector County Electrical Inspector Elizabeth Matthews Kyle Harrington Inez Harrington Jean M. Irvin B H Sellers L. Perry Cameron W. Earl Jones, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and gave report of tax colle.otions for the tax office. Chairman Brock announced that he had called a.meeting of the Board with the State of North Carolina Utilities Commission March 16th. at 2 :30 P.M. in the Commissioners Room to discuss the telephone service in the county. Chairman Brock also announced a meeting with the Mayors and the Fire Chiefs at the Johnson Home on March 16th. at 7 :00 -P.M., to discuss the appointment of a Fire Chief. Miss Ruth Smith offered $271.90 to redeem land foreclosures for taxes in 1951. The Chairman of the 'Board-was authorized to execute quiolcclaim deed to Miss Smith or her assigns on payment of $271.90. .cU9149e1 Alexander Director of Harnett Agri - Business Commission, presented. The Following Resolution was unanimously adopted Resolved: "That the Harnett County Board of Commissioners this 6th. day of March, 1967, request that Harnett County be officially designated to participate in Title 1 of the Public Works and Economic Act of 1965" Board members and the County Attorney were guests at lunch today "with':±thef N. C. Prison Department. The Board paused in silent prayer for the family of Senator Robert Morgan in the death of his little-daughter,-Alice Jean Morgan, The following Road Petitions were filed and approved: (1) To add to State Maintained Secondary Road System that road known as Norris Road, a distance of 2/10 mile. (Petition mailed to Mr. Sam Wilson) Representative Love and Representative Staten, Members of the House of Representative,-Harnett and Lee Counties, appeared before the Board . The Board requested that Harnett County be deleted from G S 153 -9 (Sub Section 53) and (Sub = Section 55). The Board'also requested that Harnett-be added to G S' 153 -1 and also" G S 153-.9 (Sub Section 47). Thomas Allen, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and gave report of valuation of county property for tax purpose. The Board ordered that Willie Smith, Lillington, Rt. 1, Neills Creek Township, be refunded $2.32 refund on House 'Trailer due to error in listing. _ The Board ordered that Harry Lungberg, BensonRt. 1, Averasboro Township,. c/o Marion Lee Ivey, Jr. be refunded $6.35 for an error' in valuation of tobacco acreage for year 1965 -and 1966, reduction. 571 r- I The Following Jurors Were Drawn For Jury Duty, Civil Term, Beginning April 17th. 1967. The Board authorized the Executive Committee of the Harnett County Mental Unit along with hospital representatives and the Executive Commission of Lee County to act as a directing group for the Mental- Health program in both Harnett and Lee Counties. A Motion Offered By Commissioner Clarence E. McLamb At A Meeting Of The Harnett County Board of Commissioners On Monday, March 6th. 1967, Seconded By Commissioner Brown and the same is Hereby Carried. It has come to the attention of members of this Board that oertain- publio funds may have been improperly handled in such a way that could result in a 1 oss to the taxpayers of Harnett County. I move that this board call in agents of the State Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or whatever other agencies may be necessary and proper to make a thorough investigation and to take whatever action may be required. Voting For: Commissioner Brown, Commissioner MoLamb and Commissioner Womble. The Board recessed. 7/4 J: Clerk to Board MARCH 9th. 1967 Chairman The Board of Commissioners with all members present met jointly with the Board of Education in the Education office on Thursday, March 9th. at 7:30 P.M.
