06081972MINUTES OF CALLED MEETING OF JUNE 8, 1972. (BUDGET MEETING FOR FISCAL YEAR 1972 -73, and FOR THE VOTING DELEGATE TO NACo. The Chairman called a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners for June 8, 1972, Commissioners' Room, Courthouse, Lillington. All members of the Board were present, also, County Auditor, H. D. Carson, Jr. The Chairman informed the members that the purpose of the meeting was to set the tax rate for the coming fiscal year and to adopt tentatively, the proposed budget. A lengthy discussion was held. Commissioner Brown made a motion that the 1972 -73 budget be tentatively adopted at the tax rate of $1.21, based on an estimated 175 million valuation, with a collection factor of 95 %. Commissioner Ray seconded the motion. Before the vote was put to the Board, Mr. Alton Gray, School Superintendent appeared before the Board to discuss his budget. From the information presented to him, he felt that he would be able to operate under the rates and bases of the budget. Commissioner Cotton called for the question, The Chairman held a vote on the motion made and recorded above. All members voted affirmatively in favor. Commissioner McLamb nominated M. H. Brock as voting delegate to NACo and W. J. Cotton, Jr. as Alternate, Commissioner Ray seconded the ominatio inand it passed favorably. SPECIAL ITEM OF BUSINESS: EARL JONES, TAX COLLECTOR was issued a one -year appointment beginning July 1, 1972 by a motion of Commissioner Brown, second by Commissioner Ray and a unanimous vote in favor. Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m. Secr'Eary THEFOLLOWING NOTICE OF INTENTION WAS ADOPTED JUNE 20, 1972, BY FAVORABLE VOTE OF COMMISSIONERS BROWN, RAY AND MCLAMB. THE CHAIRMAN WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT COMMISSIONER COTTON. ALSO, THIS NOTICE OF INTENTION WAS PRESENTED TO THE HARNETT COUNTY NEWS FOR PRINTING ON THE SAME DATE. NOTICE OF INTENTION TO * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** *APPLY TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION FOR APPROVAL OF BONDS. NOTICE is hereby given of intention of the undersigned to file application with the Local Government Commission, Raleigh, North Carolina, for its approval of the issuance of the following proposed bonds of the County of Harnett, North Carolina, which bonds shall be subject to the approval of the voters of said County at an election; $7,000,000 SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS for the purpose of providing funds with any other available funds, for erecting additional school buildings and other school plant facilities, remodeling, enlarging and reconstructing existing school buildings and other school plant facilities, and acquiring necessary land and equipment therefor, in order to provide additional school facilities in the County of Harnett to maintain the nine months' school term in said County as required by Section 2 of Article IX of the Constitution. This notice was first published on the 22nd day of June, 1972. Any citizen or taxpayer objecting to the issuance of all or any of said bonds may file with the Local Government Commission a verified statement setting forth his objections as provided in Section 159 -7.1 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, in which event he shall also file a copy of such statement with the undersigned, at any time within ten days from and after such first publication. A copy of this notice must be attached to the statement so filed. Objections set forth in said statement shall be for consid= eration by said Commission in its determination of whether or not it may hold a pub- , lic hearing as provided by law on the matter of issuance of said bonds.
