ROWLAND SOLUTION RE: ARLY CONSTRUCTION F INTERSTATE -40 OLICE- SCHOOL LIAISON FFICERS MIDYEAR EPORT NAGEMENT TEAM DJOURNMENT The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 15, 1978, in the Commissioners Room, County Office Building, Lillington, North Carolina. Chairman Jesse Alphin and Commissioners W. J. Cotton, Jr., Bill Shaw, M. H. Brock, and Lloyd Stewart were present. H. D. Carson, Jr., Clerk to the Boarc and Edward H. McCormick, County Attorney, were also present. Chairman Jesse Alphin called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Commissioner M. H. Brock introduced R. G. Rowland, President of R. G. Rowland Appraisal Company, Pittsboro, North Carolina, to the Board members. Commissioner Brock explained that Mr. Thomas Allen Tax Supervisor, and he had interviewed several appraisal compan- ies, but they felt that Mr. Rowland's firm was the most appropriat company to revaluate the County and recommended this firm for the job. Chairman Jesse Alphin expressed his appreciation to Mr. Rowland for coming before the Board and explaining his proposal. Commissioner Cotton made a motion that the following resolution requesting the Congress of the United States to help fund the construction of Interstate -40 be approved. Commissioner Brock seconded the motion and it passed with a unanimous vote. WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has decided on the route of Interstate -40 from Benson to Wilmington, and WHEREAS, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners endorse the route of I -40 selected, and WHEREAS, the selected route of I -40 will mean a great deal to Eastern North Carolina in economic growth, tourist travel, and industrial expansion, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Harnett County Board of Commissione that they respectfully request the Congress of the United States to help fund the construction of this Interstate -40 route from Benson to Wilmington as soon as possible. Done this 15th day of May, 1978. s/s Jesse Alphin Chairman of the Board Walter Weeks, Liasion Officer, appeared before the Board and presented the Police - School Liaison Officers Midyear Report to the Commissioners. Mr. Brock, County Manager, informed the Board members that he had held a joint meeting with Mr. Thomas D. Schumacher and Walter Weeks to discuss the Harnett County Management Team for Compre- hensive Services to Children. Mr. Brock explained to Mr. Schu- macher that the County already had a Management Team and extended an invitation to the members of the Management Team for Comprehen- sive Services to Children to join the existing Harnett County Team. Mr. Schumacher was very pleased with this invitation and stated he would be delighted for the management teams to join forces. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. e 5
